What you doing this weekend?

Re: What you doing this weekend?
Mostly yardwork and errands, but also BBQing some ribs. If I have the time I may try to squeeze in some D&D related stuff.

Shout out to Francisca and his muscular duo for helping moving some of the heavier and more unwieldy items.
Some grilling hopefully tomorrow. Otherwise more yard work and other 'round the house work.

Yeah, I never wore a helmet when I was a child, as I thought it was uncool and my parents never managed to impose one on me. Not wise, but children rarely are.Philotomy Jurament wrote: Yeah, I was relieved that it wasn't serious. We were moving at a good clip, at the time. It did emphasize the importance of a helmet, though. (She didn't bump her head, but just the fact of the crash was enough to drive home the point.) No real damage to the bike, either, although she did throw her chain and needed my assistance with that.
Yes, Atsugi indeed! Ebina has largely eclipsed Atsugi as the local hotspot for shopping and restaurants over the last decade or so, but Da Butcher is a good reason to go there. It is very popular and relatively new.Philotomy Jurament wrote: Very cool! Sounds like you had a nice time. Looks like that restaurant is in Atsugi. I've been to some places around there (because of the Naval Air base), but can't say I remember that one. (Of course, it's been years since I was there...)

I never wore a helmet when I was child, either. On the other hand, back then I was riding single speed BMX style bikes, so I was lower and slower. For the kind of riding we're doing, now, it helps that pretty much everyone wears a helmet. You'd stick out more (and probably not in a flattering way) if you didn't wear one.Matthew wrote:Yeah, I never wore a helmet when I was a child, as I thought it was uncool and my parents never managed to impose one on me. Looking back, it seems funny that I rode my bike (as a pre-teen/young teen) so much without any gear at all. Just get on the bike and go. These days I've got a helmet, water, bike tool, spare inner tube, CO2 inflation kit and tire levers, phone, pocket knife, and even special clothes. Maybe some food on a long ride. Back in the day, the only one of those I would've had with me is a pocket knife.

The only kid that wore a helmet in my neighborhood had epilepsy, was pretty fragile in general, and that lil fucker still played full pads football with us.

I should wear one, even if I can only see about 60' in front of me while wearing it. If I don't wear one, there is a 1 in 6 (1d6) chance I will hit my head when I fall off my bike.

My brother and I would build crappy, Napoleon Dynamite-style bike jumps and throw rocks at whoever was attempting the jump to make it more exciting. Needless to say... no helmets! In north Florida in the 80s, helmets were something only rich kids had.

Boys and throwing rocks at each other for fun...we use to have "rock wars" all the time.Chainsaw wrote:and throw rocks at whoever was attempting the jump to make it more exciting.
Since no one ever got hit, our range qual must have fallen somewhere in between that of a grunt Cobra soldier and an imperial stormtrooper - all those laser blasts crisscrossing the air but no casualties.

Re: What you doing this weekend?
My cousins and I engaged in pine cone battles in the woods and made forts, and near the 4th of July we would engage in fireworks wars. I have no idea how we never got seriously injured.

We did BB guns. Our fire was usually pretty accurate (only rule was below the neck).

Maybe that is what D&D is...playing Monopoly while someone is throwing rocks at you or shooting you with BB's.
