Latest , post-Katrina, reacquisition: Band on the Run. I'd forgotten how good Mrs. Vanderbilt makes me feel. I may listen to it daily throughout the remainder of 2020.
What's the use of worrying? (Even looking down the double barrels of Marco and Laura -- good thing they seem to be 410 rather than 12 gauge...)
True Dat.
Interesting thing about Marco, is I can't recall a hurricane in my lifetime strafing the La. coast. That's something quite common for Fl, but La coast always gets a direct (more or less) hit. Good news for TX, it'll at least be on the west side of Laura. So, rain and surge should be minimal.

Yeah, I've been following the tracking models as they've been updated. Texas remains in the cone of uncertainty for Laura, but so far indications suggest that Texas will be on the west side of the hit. Guess we'll see. I hope LA doesn't take too hard of a hit from the double-whammy.
I've been playing Mortal Shell while listening to IRON CTHULHU dark ambient music. It's spoooooky.
The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. While its very representational of a high level adventure, it sends a clear message to the dumb: Satan is going to cornhole Miss USA with a big red member and theres nothing science or the military can do about it. - Gene Weigel

Listened to one of the tracks from that today. Will be picking up the album ASAP. They're an amazing band.
I wonder if they don't get the recognition they deserve due to the fact that they don't fit comfortably into any genre - psychedelic blues metal? They should appeal to fans of Mastodon, Radiohead, Drive-by Truckers, Deerhunter, and about everything remotely rock-oriented in between. The fact that they tend to get lumped into the "stoner metal" bin is probably more indicative of the fact that metal fans are quite a bit more musically open-minded than they're given credit for.
Here's the new video:
"I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said you can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away"

I think that's exactly it. They are adjacent to a lot of things but not firmly in any category as you'd expect with more genre exemplifying groups. I've got most of thier stuff and it's the variety in their sound is really impressive.

Listening to it right now (you can listen to the whole album on bandcamp.com, for those who don't know). Haven't finished the album, yet, but I've already decided I'll be buying it.
Did you get it on vinyl?
(EDIT: Having listened to the whole album, now, I'd have to say the featured track on bandcamp (Lights Out) is one of the weaker ones, in my opinion. Surprising.)

I do not have any Witches vinyl yet. Picked up some Elder, Sleep, and HoF pieces recently though.
This is a pretty "heavy" record for them! A little more aggressive than previous efforts for sure.

I think this might be too reverential, if such a thing is possible. The, "Wow! This sounds just like the original!" wears away after a song or two, and then you're wondering why you don't just put on the original album.
I think it'd be cuter if it wasn't Ozzy's ex-guitarist doing it - like a bunch of young kids, for example - but as it is, there's a whiff of... I don't know what... desperation to stay relevant to Ozzy's fan-base? Spite to show that he doesn't need Ozzy? Plaintive call to his ex-boss that he can still do it?
A covers album like this should be fun. Instead, this comes off as a little pathetic.

I'm a little perplexed by it as well. Faithful execution of the source material to be sure but I'm not sure it elevates it or proves that it's necessary? This is more like "play this at a party to see if you can trick people" or something? It's like Madame Toussaud's Black Sabbath Sculpture Exhibit.
