Just got out of the cinema, and I am definitely impressed. I loved it, my wife loved it. Definitely keen to see it again.

I thought it was great. Everything a Mad Max movie should be. The props alone are worth the price of admission. So many bitchin' ideas.

Man, that was like 2 hours of non-stop actual, and I mean that literally. There is just not much down time to it.

I think there could have been a better, more "Mad Max" like ending, but hey George Miller ran the show so who am I to talk?

I lost a lot of adrenaline watching that film.

Fucking. Gonzo. Film.

The best part about all the action is how meaningful all the action is to the story. Each part of the chase advances the story and develops the characters a bit more. It wasn't chasing just for the sake of chasing. The chases told the story in a movie without a lot of dialogue.

I thought the ending was very Mad Max.

Spoiler

Max just going his own way at the end is very Max.

Rather big spoiler
My buddy actually came up with this one.

This requires that Max's car not get destroyed and max and the warboy switch places in the vehicles.

It would have been very mad max for max to have wrecked the war rig and the warboy go back with the rest.

Then after all is said and done, you see max limping towards his car and then driving off.

The ending was mad max, but more of a softer mad max.

Seeing how this (really awesome and fun) movie got destroyed at the box office by Pitch Perfect 2 makes me feel like Pauline Kael after the 1972 presidential election*. I honestly can't remember the last movie that more of my friends saw on opening weekend, or that got more universal acclaim, or that I overheard more strangers geeking out over in public than Mad Max Fury Road. OTOH I don't know a single person (male or female) who saw, or even expressed any interest whatsoever in, PP2. And yet somehow it earned almost double (and when you consider that MM had higher per-ticket prices due to 3D and IMAX, PP2 was probably actually seen by more than twice as many people).

Remember Fos, PP2 got the the majority of the female and child audience (MM:FR was rated R). I can guarantee that Fury Road will outpace Pitch Perfect 2 in the upcoming weeks just by word of mouth alone.

Also note that PP2 - much like American Idol - isn't scary or dangerous. It's safe and soft, and if there is one thing that I've learned since I've moved is that there is a huge segment of the American population that likes only the comforting and conforming.

Spoil it for me a bit: what car did Max drive off in? Was it The Interceptor?

That's an interesting article RR, thanks.

...now about Hugh Keays-Byrne playing Toecutter, I'll have to get out my old VHS copy of Mad Max to be sure, but I always remember that the Toecutter was the first road warrior who was taken out by Mad Max at the beginning of the movie, and Hugh Keays-Byrne was just the next guy in line to lead the gang. (What the hell was his name!!??) The Toecutter was in the pine-box at the train station where Hugh & the Gang pick it up.

Even imdb has HKB down as the Toecutter. Well, it must be true. It says so right there on the internet. :?
