Re: So Texas... 2
Fighters need a 20 to save vs breath at level 1? Some of those saves sound a little wrong, but I'd need to check my PHB to verify. I did the aging stats thing to my characters, where I roll according to the class/aging table in the DMG to determine age and then give them bonuses/penalties for all age categories up to their current. I think the only spot I'm having trouble in now for character creation is movement rate. I can't find movement rate for dwarfs anywhere.

I rolled up 18 characters in case anyone needs some. I'll print them out, they'll just need to buy equipment. Even managed one Ranger and one Assassin.
Re: So Texas... 2
I need to go check this generator out. Sounds like it might speed up building the character stable for the Tuesday night G+ group.

The pregems PJ made look good. Do you guys want to do starting spells BTB?

I admit, I'm hanging on to some of my OD&D proclivities, but I don't think you'll need that many.DungeonDork wrote:I rolled up 18 characters...

You guys do what you want, of course, but there's something "more real" about a character who is generated by funny dice hitting a solid tabletop.Flambeaux wrote:I need to go check this generator out.

Yeah, generators can be convenient, but it definitely feels less satisfying.austinjimm wrote:You guys do what you want, of course, but there's something "more real" about a character who is generated by funny dice hitting a solid tabletop.

The only thing I had to use a generator for was my weight and height, because the DMG weight and height tables are impossible to decipher.

I needed to save some time. And the girlfriend has never rolled up AD&D characters before, so this was the most convenient thing I could do. Otherwise, I agree, real dice are the best.austinjimm wrote:You guys do what you want, of course, but there's something "more real" about a character who is generated by funny dice hitting a solid tabletop.Flambeaux wrote:I need to go check this generator out.

Really? I’ve never used them, but they look pretty easy. Let’s do a human male height. Roll d%:CountingWizard wrote:The only thing I had to use a generator for was my weight and height, because the DMG weight and height tables are impossible to decipher.
01-20 … 72" minus 2-20" (2d10)
21-80 … average
81-00 … 72" plus 2-20" (2d10)
If you got average, roll d% again:
01-30 … 72" minus 1-4½" (d8)
31-70 … 72" exactly
71-00 … 72" plus 1-4½" (d8)

I agree...but there are times when I don't want to spend 4 hours of game time (a whole session) trying to teach people to create characters to old way.austinjimm wrote:You guys do what you want, of course, but there's something "more real" about a character who is generated by funny dice hitting a solid tabletop.Flambeaux wrote:I need to go check this generator out.

Stuck a fork in the player's Wilderness Map for Saturday. It's not perfect, but it'll do:

Awesome! Never thought I'd finally see The Imperial City of Sparn on the local hexmap. I guess this is going to be an AD&D 1e Planet Eris adventure, already makes this session 10x better than Greyhawk and 100x better than Forgotten Realms.
