I remember Sam Neil from Attack Force Z (also starred the guy who played Sinbad on Golden Voyage as a bit of a psycho, a very young Mel Gibson...made up a team of Aussie special forces guys in WWII China). Love the silenced submachine guns in that movie :D .

thedungeondelver wrote:There was actually only one song by Ministry in Hardware - "Stigmata", from The Land of Rape and Honey, their 1988 album. The other parts of the soundtrack were industrial/ambient stuff by Simon Boswell, audio drops from the movie (including Lemmy from Motorhead talking to one of the protagonists and another couple of Iggy Pop as "Angry Bob", the DJ of WAR radio), and Public Image Limited's "The Order of Death" from 1984's This Is What You Want... This Is What You Get.
Ah...you are completely right about that. Not sure why I didn't catch that before I posted since I have the soundtrack somewhere around here. I used to buy really odd, obscure soundtracks for whatever screwy reason back then. Pretty much anything I could find by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth. I even have a copy of the OST for Halloween III. Why I bought it I have no idea. :?

Here are a few more sci-fi movies I remember watching back in the day (or a decade or so ago) that were decent but don't get a lot of love or were bombs at the box office:
Supernova. James Spader as an astronaut and a decent nude scene with Robin Tunney. What's not to like?
Warlords of the 21st Century, also known as Battletruck. Another silly Road Warrior rip off. It had its moments though.
Dreamscape. Loved this movie when I was a kid. It's a bit dated nowadays. "Tommy Ray" was one creepy sumbitch though.
Equilibrium. Has this one acheived a cult following yet? Although Christian Bale, Sean Bean, and several other second-tier but fairly well known actors were in this one, it was missed by most people. Corny plot but some great action scenes.
And probably my favorite "vampire" movie ever, Near Dark is still a fantastic flick to watch. Why Bill Paxton didn't with the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor is a mystery to me. The scene in the roadhouse bar is a classic. :D

Prince of Darkness is a great movie.

The original Solaris is amazing, I've not seen the Clooney version nor read the novel, but if you're interested in Russian sci-fi, check out any of Bulgakov's satirical sci-fi fantasy - The dangerous Eggs (Giant lizards loose in Soviet Russia) and Master and Margherita - Satan and a giant bipedal cat on the loose, naked witches, beheadings... There are a couple of film versions of Master and Margherita and a pretty good mini-series but the novel is an all time classic.

Fantastic Planet is another good one.

Galaxy of Terror - a James Cameron (as sfx director) tour de force.

I watched Barbarella last night. It was worse than I remembered but I had a lot of laughs.
The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. While its very representational of a high level adventure, it sends a clear message to the dumb: Satan is going to cornhole Miss USA with a big red member and theres nothing science or the military can do about it. - Gene Weigel

It probably doesn't come as much of a surprise that Barbarella is one of my all-time favorite movies. 8)

There's so many things wrong with it you can't help but like it.

I love it, but it helps to regard it more a psychedelia than scifi. In that respect it's akin to Zardoz.

Oh I totally "get it". It's just funnier now for some reason.

One of my favorite old movies is The Mole People. It definitely has that Merritt or Haggard lost world thing going for it.
