Does anyone know of a good (and I stress, good), dedicated discussion forum for Star Wars? I'd like one with a cozy, relatively civil environment akin to K&K rather than the Wizbro boards or the chaos that is RPG.net.

Scarily enough, it's believable he'd do something like that.austinjimm wrote:
Lucas crapped out back in the mid-90s and became a hack. It's sad.

For the former, I've got The Rancor Pit, but I meant the latter. Sorry for the ambiguity.Falconer wrote:Discussion of Star Wars tabletop roleplaying, or discussion of Star Wars in general?ThirstyStirge wrote:Does anyone know of a good (and I stress, good), dedicated discussion forum for Star Wars? Until Ep. 7 debuts, I'm returning Ep. 4 to it's original title, "Star Wars", and renaming Ep. 7, "Star Wars: A New Hope".

Mmmm.. They showed sand dunes, then said, "there has been an awakening". I was half-expecting Paul Atreides to pop up....Chainsaw wrote:Seeing a few trailers out there... I think these are legit. I'm cautiously optimistic.![]()

I'm trying to properly gauge my enthusiasm for this movie...
On the bottom of the spectrum, it can' t be worse than Attack of the Clones. It simply can't. That would be impossible.
On the top of the spectrum, it has no way of being the cultural phenomenon of Star Wars and Empire.
Off to the side someplace is Phantom Menace, a weird movie that hit all the wrong notes, that may have had a decent movie lurking somewhere in the mess. I don't think anything that strange can be replicated.
So, I think the true expectations are somewhere between Revenge of the Sith - a pleasant surprise of a movie, that at the very least got you excited to go home and pop in the original trilogy - and Return of the Jedi - an initially disappointing movie, that could not have possibly lived up to the post-Empire expectations, but has gotten better with age and perspective.
(Although, I still think that Lucas completely pulled the "Leia is your sister" crap completely out of his ass because he couldn't think of any other way to make Luke so mad that he'd kill the father he was so convinced could be saved. It was completely discordant with the previous two movies. I still think it would be cool if these new movies reveal that Leia was not actually his sister, and Ben and Yoda just let him believe that so he'd go through with killing Vader. After all, they never actually told Luke that Leia was his sister. They just told him there was another Skywalker and let him jump to his own conclusion. The sister could be someone else entirely. I mean, that would be fairly consistent with how Ben and Yoda lied by omission to Luke throughout the series. Not that you can really blame them considering the alternative... "You mean Darth Vader is my dad? Suck it, Uncle Owen! Get you own fucking power converters. I'm off to see if Pops can get me into the family business.")

The prequels were so, so jacked up.
"Only Sith speak in absolutes!"
... 30 years later ...
"He's more machine than man now, twisted and evil."
face, meet palm
Anyway, there's no point in indicting the prequels yet again. yes they sucked, and yes they made $2.5bn. <shrug>
