While I'm here, I could also find the keys to the garage and go find that old Vietnam era gas mask I picked up years ago when I was in the USN. Its been gutted and has no respirator, but it does have lenses, so I'll see what I can do to jury-rig it to be "virus safe" - as it were, and surprise my group with it the next time we actually get together for a game.
Plague Doctor mask FTW!

With any luck, finishing the text of The Heroic Legendarium - I’ve got 4 more spell descriptions to write, plus a new preface/introduction. That doesn’t mean it’s ready for release - I’ve still got to do the layout and scare up some art - but it still feels like a very significant milestone that I’ve been working towards for about 4 years.

Grocery store wasn't as bad as I'd anticipated. No lines. They were out of some stuff, but they've clearly been working hard on restocking. Biggest bummer was the food items I most wanted (fresh stuff) were the most limited. No eggs, no whole milk (settled for skim milk), very limited selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Limited selection of meat, too, but we didn't really need that (we've got a freezer full). They had plenty of fresh seafood, though. Got some salmon and some shrimp. The barest part of the store was the TP and tissue aisle. Oh, and the bottled water aisle (just as if it were a hurricane). Looks like there was a big run on ramen, too.

What am I not doing: finishing up my second adventure for Garycon, packing for my trip to Germany, prepping my Chainmail stuff for Garycon.

What I am doing: recovering from a run to the grocery store and Total Wine, figuring out what else I’ll be doing during maybe six weeks of telework, playing D&D tonight!

I’ll call it a draw.

Aiming to catch up on some work, assemble a new frankenbox PC, play games with the kids, and watch some Columbo.
I might also have a cigar and try to get a nap or two.

Civilization is already lost if, faced with weeks of self-care, people are choosing ramen.

Maybe the self-selection to malnutrition will winnow the survivors of the Apocalypse faster than better nutritional choices?

Update to our activities: my wife ordered a copy of Pandemic...so I think we'll be playing that this weekend.

This boardgame (but not it's spin-off games) was 50% off a couple weeks ago at my not-so FLGS. Given the amount of snow on the ground, I doubt I'll be driving 100+ miles to see if it is still on sale.

I've had an interest in it, but resisted so far, mainly because I do not believe the other players in my group would be interested in it.

BTW, two spin-off games I also had an eye on are "Fall of Rome" and "Reign of C'thulhu". I might shop around for better versions of a "fall of Rome" style game before jumping on this one, and with the C'thulhu game, there are already several games out there, and I think one of them may offer a better game experience concerning desperation and hopelessness.

Making an XL pot of oxtail soup. Trying gaming via Google Hangouts + Roll 20 for the first time tomorrow. Doing some spring cleaning. :)

Fairly interesting reactions to the Bat Plague. Until now, there have been no visible signs at all something would be happening. I felt a bit out of place slowly stocking up on stuff. Today, I went to the farmer's market, and the baker was out of white bread (I eat full grain, though, so no problems there - he will do delivery, too), all the eggs were gone, the nearby general store was full of buyers buying household supplies, and by the time I got to the butcher, they were out of everything except some nice sirloin. So, sirloin it is instead of chicken breasts. 8) It is as if people are slowly realising this may not just be a thing they get to see on TV.

I admit to buying some upscale Ramen-style meals. I don't usually eat that stuff but figured if I will be shut in for a while, it could provide variety.

I have acquired several packages of pasta that fills up my shelf quite nicely. No need (or want!) for ramen noodles.

Ro-tel, Velveeta and a pound of ground round (taco flavor added) in the crock-pot warming up. I actually mixed this up last night in time for midrats, and put it in the fridge for later this weekend.

Ginormous weekend planned. I hope I get all of absolutely fuck-all accomplished.

We're thinking of looking into the Fall of Rome version if we like find we like Pandemic. I'm a little concerned about it being 2-4 players, though. With 6 kids, we tend to prefer games that can accommodate at least 5-6.

I'm not sure either has a whole lot of "desperation & hopelessness", but GMT Games' Time of Crisis and Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea might be worth considering. ACIS is more like Civ in many ways but Time of Crisis is set during the late Empire and its collapse. We interviewed the creators of ACIS for our podcast last fall.

A favorite of ours, although we're emerging from the light chill of "winter" and into the warm & wet rainy season in our part of Texas, so we probably won't make much again until next fall. But perhaps some Roman-style coda alla vaccinara for Pascha... 8)

Pandemic is a very fun game. I recommend it to those who have not played it!

When you’re done with your updates, Trent, I’ll update my intro if you’re still interested?

If you’ve not played before, you’re in for a treat, Chris: it took us a year to beat the game playing in “normal” mode =)
