Re: NTRPGCon Report
Man, was looking forward to meeting you, Wheggi. Good stuff on finding work though - obviously that's more important than goofing off with us!

Sorry to miss the chance to meet you this year, but congratulations on the new gig. I've been in similar spots myself and I completely understand doing what's necessary.
Glad it'll work out, even if it does cost you some fun in the short run.

Bring home the bacon now so that we can roll dice together at NTRPG Con 2011. Good luck.
Re: NTRPGCon Report
Dude. Wheggi, man. Of course I'm happy you won't lose your house!
But,
I'm really gonna miss meeting you at the con.
T.Foster! This does NOT give you permission to back out!

Damn this sucks.Wheggi wrote:To All:
It breaks my heart to announce this, but I am going to have to retract my participation in the NTRPGCon this year. While heartbreaking for me, this is actually good news:
As some of you know, work has been incredibly slow for me lately (I'm in the trades, and as you may have guessed we've been hit pretty hard) and in fact I've been in a quasi-unemployed status for the last couple weeks simply because there hasn't been work. The future was looking pretty grim, and the wife and I were getting ready to make the Hard Choices (lose the house, etc.). Still I intended to go to NTRPG con with some money I'd set aside for it. I figured I owed it to myself. Weeellll, I got the call today and we won a bid for a FANTASTIC job: 3 months of prevailing that will more than cover my mortgage, feed the family and all that other cool stuff.Unfortunately, as you may have guessed, it takes place during the summer, and there is no way I can make it to the con.
I apologize to everyone I was hoping to meet there, and I hope you guys understand. BadMike, if you could, please open up the spots on the table where I'm reserved.
Maybe next year, huh.
- Wheggi
I'll cancel you out, Wheggi, but I'm going to be looking for your ass next year.

That's what wheggi told me too: "I've got an excuse not to go, you don't!" I've got to admit I'm sorely tempted, though, especially since I haven't yet bought a plane ticket or reserved a room...TheRedPriest wrote:T.Foster! This does NOT give you permission to back out!

Wheggi: Bummer, your 2 fisted, first through the door gaming style will be missed at Rob's table. Cannot blame you one bit. CA is hurting! Seems everyone out here knows atleast one person being dragged down in this economy mess. Hopefully you can make the home game. If not we can schedule our own.
Trent, to you I say this. Take the chance. You know the crowd much better than I do and you remember how I could not shutup about how much fun I had. You belong in Texas. Besides, we can give Badmike that Lakers jersey he's been secretly craving.

C'mon, a big Hollywood entertainment mogul like yourself, I figured you'd have "people" to handle that stuff for you.T. Of course, with that sort of "people", you're likely to wind up at TaliCon in Afghanistan.

It's not an option: you have to go. If you don't, Axe will start up with his "Trent's refusing to go if Tony doesn't? And they're Californians? I wonder if their luggage matched. Hmmmmm. . . "T. That's 20 minutes you could have spent rolling up a new character if opening that door got you killed!

I'm starting a new thread on this so as to not derail this very relevant one.Wheggi wrote:Debating for 20 minutes how to open a door is the pussy way. Re: NTRPGCon Report
OK, so supposing I am actually still going to this I'm going to need someplace to stay. Anybody have a spare bed (or fold out couch) available? I'll obviously pay my share. This will, I think, be the make-or-break decision, because I don't think I can justify footing the cost of an entire room just for myself for 3 nights.

IIRC Harley Stroh is crashing in our room, Trent, but if you're not a roomie, I'm sure we can accommodate you as well. I may look into a larger room if we do end up with four of us, though....

Re: NTRPGCon Report
The sofas are all pull out beds. The double suites can fit four, one suite has two beds, the other a queen, and the sofa folds out, so you may want to look into that.....I don't know how many of these two bedroom suites there are, but the prices are very, very reasonable.grodog wrote:IIRC Harley Stroh is crashing in our room, Trent, but if you're not a roomie, I'm sure we can accommodate you as well. There is also a "looking for a roomie" thread at the NTRPG Con website. I suspect a lot of people don't have their situations under control....as a matter of fact, I think Sir Allen just posted somewhere he is looking for a roommate.......? Another possibility is Al "Killjoy" Silcock, a brit who is quite a legend around the Acaeum, and as regulars there can attest to, one of the most stand up guys in the hobby. We talked him into attending again this year, and I believe he needs a roommate. Anyway, TF, post on the NTRPGCon boards and see what pops up.
Also guys due to Wheggi's cancellations some prime spots have opened up (Grodog's Castle Greyhawk, Rob Kuntz's game) so you might want to check out the NTRPG boards if you have a chance.
And as more enticement, besides the Tim Kask special edition module reprints, I'll reveal on here for the first time that Peter K. has authorized reprints of the rare Wee Warriors D&D module "Palace of the Vampire Queen". This is the first ever published D&D module, and the rights are not owned by TSR/WOTC, and Pete has nicely agreed to pass ownership/copyright of this (and other Wee Warriors publications) to NTRPG Con! Like the Kask modules, this will be in digest form, and looks great (I've seen the copies). They will only be available at the con for right now, although we may make these available later on (unlike the Kask modules which will only be available at the con until they sell out).
I can serve up incentive, dammit!!!!
