Watched Star Trek III: TSFS the other day. I’ve seen it only once before, a decade ago. It’s great fun, I can’t hate it, only it’s SOOO 80s.
The main thing I couldn't get past was that they recast Lt. Saavik.
I like all 6 of the original-cast Trek movies, even #5, which reminds me of one of those late-period John Ford or Howard Hawks movies like
Hatari! or
Donovan's Reef where it's clearly just a bunch of old friends hanging out having fun together in a picturesque location and the stakes are extremely low and you can tell nobody was taking any of it too seriously on either side of the camera. I actually prefer it to #6, which tried to be too Important and Serious.

I never bothered before to discover what happened there, so just did. Unsurprisingly, they couldn't ink a deal. What I did learn that's interesting is that the character Saavik was originally going to return in VI as the traitorous Vulcan. I have nothing against Cattrall, but Alley's Saavik may have elevated the movie a bit.
Here's the interesting story I read, though I disagree with the opinion in the final paragraph:

We watched Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home the other night, the only ST movie I consider an essential addition to the show. Memorable and pitch-perfect.

IDK. I liked two and four well enough. The rest......I could have done without seeing.

The last episode of The Expanse S5 dropped, and what happened, happened. And, I did *not* see that coming.
Really major book & show spoiler:
Yeah, wasn't expecting that...and the way it was handled was very poor.
There's a reason I put this behind spoiler tags.
I disagree that it wasn't handled well.
I finally caught up last night. What happened seemed empty and pointless, but I get why they did it that way. In any case, season five was a major improvement on four. I read there will be one more then finis.

I admire TMP, because I think it's a work of art and I have a lot of nostalgia for it considering it was the first real dose of new ST we had since... the animated series, maybe?
I wanted to like III, but just couldn't.
II and IV were the actors at their best. V sucked ass, and VI was a rambling trip to nowhere and a poor send off for our beloved crew.

The Hindi movie Tumbbad, on Amazon Prime. Totally D&D-esque.

Just finished the run of Firefly. Again.

I know it gets mixed reviews here, but it definitely feels like a cross between Star Trek and D&D to me.

Been watching Farscape, having missed it during the original run. About midway through the first season, and the show improved a lot since the first few episodes.
HBO's Perry Mason is done as an origin story for the famed lawyer. I'm 3 episodes in, and liking the extra noir vibe. Nothing like Burr's Mason at all. I haven't read the books, but now I'm tempted.
Sinner, S1, with Bill Pullman and Jessica Biel is a good crime drama. Pullman plays a creepy dude too well. Watching his detective is maybe more cringey (in a good performance way) than the actual crime.

I remember really digging Farscape. The first season or two, then it got too wacky for me IIRC

I haven't seen that yet, maybe I will, but did you ever see Pullman in
Torchwood: Miracle Day? I won't describe the background of his character here because it's a subject that doesn't need to be on this board, but he's pretty vile and disgusting, but comes off as highly compelling.

Well I guess I would probably consider TMP better than 3, 5 or 6. It was worth seeing once. But I do not think I would have the urge to see it again.

Forgot about that one. Thankfully. Until now.
He'd said in an interview something along the lines of that he was drawn to test his acting skills playing the vilest character imaginable. I suppose he can tick that off his bucket list.
