Re: What Are You Watching?

You're spot on about the surrealism. Space 1999 never really advanced the plot. Each episode was self-contained, so we always have the status quo at the start of the episode, 50 minutes of madness, and then status quo is once again achieved by the end credits. The one thing that popped out to me as...

Re: What Are You Watching?

Binge watching Space: 1999 on youtube. I'm up to episode 19 in the first season. The writing is hit or miss. The pilot shows the Moon getting blown out of earth's orbit by way of an exploding atomic waste dump that gets too hot. Aside from this, I think about half of the episodes are genuine...

Re: What Are You Watching?

Just watched The Relic . I've seen it before, long ago. Although derivative of other movies, it was better than I remembered. And definitely Call of Cthulhu-ish. The one with Miller and Sizemore? I thought it was very good and harkened back to classics like Them! or the original The Thing from anot...

Allan.
I enjoyed Atomic Blonde. Just watched We Need To Talk About Kevin, or at least as much as I could stand. Unpleasant and slightly disgusting.

I stopped watching it in the middle. Did it pick up again?

Re: What Are You Watching?

Just tried watching the Robert Mitchum version of "The Big Sleep". Phenomenal cast, the movie starts of just wrong and just gets worse. Stick with Bogart.

Re: What Are You Watching?

So, HBO releases Tolkien and Amazon Prime releases the 2011 version of Conan on the same day... Tolkien wasn't bad, but certainly idealized his adolescence. The cinematography was quite nice. Not having seen the 2011 Conan, I'm afraid it's going to ruin it for me. The Mamoa Conan? What a waste. The...

Re: What Are You Watching?

Ive been watching the Zatoichi movies. Blind 12th level fighter with a magic sword fights large groups of 0 and 1st level fighters with the occasional 9th, 10th or 11th level fighter thrown in to last a few combat rounds. It has some humor as well as surprising twists and turns. I've watched 8 of th...

Re: What Are You Watching?

Watched "Hour of the Gun" Garner and Robard. Seemed to be the inspiration for Tombstone. And watched "Gunfight at the OK Corral" with Lancaster and Kirk Douglas which seemed to be the inspiration for "Wyatt Earp". Im a big fan of Tombstone and dislike the Wyatt Earp movie. But the Garner and Lancast...

Re: What are you reading?

I've not read Hornblower to date, but my ears still perk up when folks discuss it here. At bedtime I'm currently reading the omnibus novels of _The Vampire Genevieve_, by Kim Newman writing as Jack Yeovil. The first, _Drachenfels_, paints a good picture of daily life in the Old World of Warhammer 1...

Re: What Are You Watching?

watched the 2nd season of the Lost in Space reboot. It is okay, not sure if there is a season 3 in the works. I could see it being cancelled. Then 'The River' an 8 episode series from a few years back. Found footage, pseudo-documentary, it was okay till the last two episodes, especially the last epi...

Re: What Are You Watching?

Watched several Zombie-ish movies. Open Grave, which starts out strong then rapidly makes less and less sense. Watched a Pakistani zombie flick 'Altered Skin' which wasn't half-bad and an Indian zombie flick called 'The Dead 2' which also wasn't half bad. Then a couple of terrible ones Plan Z and Zo...
