I have a player who found a Robe of Useful Items. She removed the War Dog patch and now has a pair of dogs that generally fare better in combat that almost anyone else in the party.

Would a dispel magic affect them, or anything else from the patches?

oof, imagine being in the Pit when someone casts Dispel Magic.
I'd say no, they are there (transformed).

PHB page 47 emphasis grodog wrote:A dispel magic will not affect a specially enchanted item such as a scroll, magic ring, wand, rod, staff, miscellaneous magic item, magic weapon, magic shield, or magic armor.
However:
DMG, p. 41 wrote:Dispel Magic: If this spell is cast upon a magic item it most certainly will have the effect of causing it to be non-operational for 1 round thereafter if the item does not make a saving throw - if the item is not in the possession of any creature, then the item gets no saving throw, and it is nonoperational for 1 round. Note that artifacts and relics are NOT subject to this effect. Any dispel magic spell must be cast directly at the obiect, not anything or anyone else, to be so effective.
Keep in mind, the items in question are the result of patches that have been removed from the magic item proper, and brought into existence by transformation or conjuration (however you choose to play it). It's really a DM's call, in my view. I would take into consideration the level of Wizard necessary to create the robe, but would allow a 'dispel magic' of appropriate strength to either cause the removed item to turn back into a worthless patch of cloth, or simply dispel it.

EDIT: The removed items are, without question, brought into existence by magic. That's the key issue to be considered for me.

I had thought there was a 1 round/turn duration of inoperability, but forgot to check the DMG. Thanks Jim :D

Now that opens up an interesting possibility . . . the robe of wonder appears to be a robe of useful items, but removing a patch occasions a roll on the wand of wonder table instead.

And then there's the robe of many things . . .

You pull of a patch...a thermal nuclear explosion...no save needed for five square miles.
