You can talk about "almost" anything here.

This is the kind of thing you can see on audiophile forums where people post their equipment in a sticky so people can see where they are coming from with their likes and dislikes.
That actually might work to learn who we are talking to straight away. It's pretty clear what the tendencies of gamers are based on their top 5 modules or so. But then, what happens to the complete newbies who happens to share our tendencies but has never ever seen a copy of S2 or T1 or whatnot in his entire lifetime?

My suggestion:
Make the dark theme the default!!!

I feel like the absurdly ugly default theme likely scares people away.

Also, the rather old "Pardon the mess. We're tidying..." banner could be updated.

That would get cluttered with non-posting members after a few years.
I would prefer people stick a link in their signature to a list of favorites if they were so inclined.

Across the top, I'd like a return of the black and white tavern art from page 101 of the DMG. Coincidentally, there is a tavern image on page 101 of the PHB as well. The DMG pic rules though - really fits this place.

Moreover, we could put someone (gosh, I don't really want to volunteer) to fixing up a custom theme like we used to have.

Heck yeah! Gotta set the tone for people stumbling in for the first time.

I know, that was my alternate for the original, with a greater contrast to blend with a black scheme and a cleaned-up, less pixelized font.

I still have the PSD file by the way so, if you want me to play with it again and offer some variants and whatnot, I can totally do it with minimal work involved.

Yeah, why not go even bigger? Something like:

But we should try to find the correct font. Anyone know?
