It would be far better for JRRT's memory if CT released the whole IP to the public domain on his death. Then people who love the material could do something with it instead of it ending up like Winnie the Pooh, trapped in some ghastly holywood rape dungeon for eternity.
And, frankly, if that means JRRT's grandchildren and great grandchildren have to go and work instead of living off their dead grandfather's corpse then so much the better.

Quote of the year, right there.
Walk amongst the natives by day, but in your heart be Superman.

I agree.
We've tried very hard to deprive our sons of exposure to the Perverted Pooh sold by the Mouse House.

You have confused "deprive" with "shield".
Personally, I'd be happy with copyright that lasted 14 years or until the death of the creator(s), whichever is longer. I'm happy that anyone can live off their own work's success for their entire lives even if it's just one fantastically sucessful piece, and I'm also happy that if someone drops dead unexpectedly that their children should have some chance to do something with their parents' work in lieu of the inheritance they might have gained otherwise. I just don't see the value to society of saying that a person's work can be whored around multi-national corporations for literally generations after they die.
Most of REH's output is in the public domain, but the difficulty is that Conan Properties, like Arkham House did with HPL, behaves as if they hold the copyright on his texts, which scares off a lot of people out of fears of a lawsuit. What Conan Properties does hold are trademarks relating to many of REH's characters. That makes it hard to sell, say, his Conan stories when the name "Conan" or "Conan the Barbarian" are trademarks held by another company.

Which reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from Red Dwarf...
Walk amongst the natives by day, but in your heart be Superman.

Christopher Tolkien (executor of the J.R.R. Tolkien Estate) has not and will not allow anyone to do any movie or game based on The Silmarillion, The History of Middle-earth, etc.
I can’t say I blame him, however it would be awesome to see a board war game of The Silmarillion. I also wouldn’t mind seeing it as a BBC TV series. I’m sure after good old Christopher passes away, the Estate will succumb to temptation, for better or for worse. Regards.
I had heard that there was going to be an attempt to make a story from the 1st age into a movie. The Children of Húrin, I think it was.
So that was just some internet hooey?
