Computer Geek question

Post by Stonegiant »

Everytime I try to listen to music at work over the web everything comes out sounding like the chimpmunks, anyone got a clue on how to fix that ?
I want to hear what you did in the dungeon, not the voting booth. Politics and rules minutia both bore me in my opinion.

Remove the excess helium from the room? (You don't work in a dirigible, do you?)

Try another app (QT or VLC or even media player classic) and report back.

Although I rarely stream at work, preferring my MP3 collection, I've found Windows Media Player to work fine without audio distortion.

But I handed over my Computer Geek card years ago, so I'm not really qualified to advise you how to proceed.

I've encountered that problem playing files back at the wrong bit-rate.
Usually it should be set on 16bit/44.1khz. Not all soundcards will have an option to set the bit rate, though. The same is true for playback applications.
It would be worth checking to see if something is set incorrectly in your soundcard control panel or preferences of the application.
Failing that I would suggest reinstalling the application or trying a different one. You may have to reset the default application that your web browser uses for sound.
