You can talk about "almost" anything here.

Busy with cool stuff for a couple of days

Post by Mythmere »

For the next couple of days, I'm going to stay away from the board as much as possible to work on two writing projects. One is Nanowrimo, which is sort of like a "slam novel" rather than slam poetry. You try to write a 50K word novel during the month of November. Details on the "contest" at http://www.nanowrimo.org/ if anyone's curious. Obviously, I'm behind on it and have only a couple of days left.

My other project is writing up a Dark Ages Mystery/horror game reminiscent of Call of Cthulhu Dark Ages but with new and different game mechanisms. I write games every once in a while (I don't count OSRIC), but this one has a pretty robust set of rules. It's designed for mystery gaming rather than heroic adventure, although it could be used for gritty adventure, too, in a sort of "Deadlands" style of campaign.

So, I plan on writing something like 100,000 words in the next few days. Like I'm going to succeed. Nevertheless, nothing ventured, nothing gained. :D

6,000 words on the game, nothing on the novel. This ain't going to happen. Still -- once more into the breach for England, St. George, and King Harry ... or however it goes. There is still the evening left, and days after that! :D

I'd love to see that finished game when you're done, Mythmere.I'd like to know how you handle Player skills vs. PC skills in an investigative and social setting.
As far as gritty goes, I haven't seen a simple yet gritty system since the Original Top Secret and Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes-I might count the original Traveller too, though PC's tended to fall unconscious far more often than they died in combat...
This sig for lease-contact owner.

Is December going to be Inga-Wrimo? (international game writing month).

Counting from tomorrow (UTC) you have between 24 and 37 days (depending on your cultural preference) to finish a game or a module or a rules supplement, to be given away as a holiday gift to your fellow gaming community.

What do you say? The gauntlet is thrown, for all to pick up...

Share your efforts here!

Neat idea, Olaberg! But maybe doing an OSRIC module ought to be the challenge. :D

I bet we could host the results from anyone who completes a module in the allotted time.

I'd love to see what comes out of this! As for me, I'm trying to crank out art for the OSRIC Companion.

I posted an announcement thread about the "competition." Any rule system is fair game (provided it's one supported by the site, I guess).

The beauty of constrained time. I intend to create it within the next weekend.
