Rough commute

Post by rogatny »

Just moved into my new house for my new job.

The commute takes me all of 7 minutes.

Walking.

Sounds like you just got a big discount on your auto insurance. :)

You are an evil evil person. My 37.5 mile commute takes me 30 minutes to 2 hours with random chance governing how long it will be.

I've now (since July) got a ~20 mile commute along one of the busiest stretches of freeway in the country. It takes 30-45 min in the morning and 45 min to 1 hr in the evening and that's going against the flow of traffic. I can barely conceive of what it would be like going in the other direction (which, as far as I can tell, is an unremitting parking lot the entire way, morning and night). It really sucks.

I have a 4 minute drive. Unfortunately it is a lot farther than when I lived across the road from a mill I once worked at. :D

My current commute is 62 miles each way. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes to get to work, and depending if I'm commuting in the AM or PM it can take the same amount of time OR 2 hours to get home.

(Northridge to Ontario . . . Foster knows this one, just as I have commuted that hideous Hollywood to West Valley run that he takes. They both bite root.)

The real irony is that I got a raise taking the position that puts me in the location that I am in now, but before that I commuted 2 minutes to work, making my raise almost a pay deduction (once you factor in $500.00/month for gas + vehicle maintenance costs + commute time, which I consider being at work but without pay). Still angling for the company truck.

When I lived in Chicago, I would walk to the end of my block, pick up the bus, ride for 20 minutes through Lincoln Park (not the neighborhood - the actual park), and be dropped off directly in front of the building I was working in.

Probably the nicest commute you could ever hope for in Chicago.

I still hated it.

That's why I now live in a small town.

My commute, against rush hour traffic, is about 12 miles and takes between 20 and 30 minutes each way, depending on how many fools are on the road that day.

I'm about a minute's drive from work. Work will be moving soon a couple towns over. When I found out, I changed apartments. Now, when the big move occurs, I'll still be only a minute away PLUS have a grocery store right next door and a laundrymat and movie rental place across the street!

By car with traffic it takes me 3 minutes to get to work, on foot it takes 10-20 minutes depending on my pace :D
I want to hear what you did in the dungeon, not the voting booth. Politics and rules minutia both bore me in my opinion.
