How was your last RPG session?

My last session was set in the Star Trek Mirror Universe. Three of the PCs from the prime campaign had discovered an ancient artifact in a stasis box (a mirror, naturally) and were body-swapped with their mirror character as in the episode. Everyone else played their mirror character. I spent time with each player to brainstorm how their mirror character might have developed differently from their prime character, work out how past adventures might have fallen out differently, and establish their character’s objective(s). And set them loose in the sandbox — the Triangle. It was super rad because, like I said, every character had his or her own objectives and the action was maximally player-driven. Kidnappings, assassinations, alliance-making, sex, drugs, stealth, a superweapon, empire-building, pirates, beaming in mid-action, multiple ships having encounters in space and visiting multiple planets, everything!

I really want to play and am getting pretty antsy about it the longer this quarantine goes on. Sadly all of the expat guys I used to play with are gone.So, I'm looking at recruiting a new crew of mostly local Vietnamese English-speakers and maybe my kid. Not on FB anymore so I'm considering recruiting via a Vietnam subreddit, which may or may not be a good idea. In any case it will once again mean I'll have to teach most of them how to play which can be good or bad. Once more into the Caves of Chaos. Probably in Pelinore this time rather than the Wilderlands and depending on the players I may need to go with B/X or S&W. Not my fave obviously but not as steep a curve as passing out copies of OSRIC to non-native speakers.

I assume a D&D night under those circumstances would devolve into a typical, Vietnamese gambling-drinking binge...with the inevitable visit from the local station [as opposed to becoming a down-low, '74 drug fest.]

Advertising for such would be an adventure in itself...like looking for lady-boi henchmen in Bangkok.

The party was making it's way back from Apepi's temple, when they strayed into an ambush by a group of Tasloi. Both MU's had been polymorph'd into snakes, so they were no help. The party got its ass handed to it, and had to flee after barely surviving the Tasloi and their Giant Wasp allies. It's amazing they handled the Yuan-ti so well last session, but got overwhelmed by some scrubs. Fun stuff!

No, my wild years of teaching whores how to play D&D are over, as are my wild substance-fuelled binge lost weeks. I still like my weed and an occasional beer but I intentionally do not do any of that stuff with the locals (it rarely ends well).

Over the past few years, Boardgaming cafes have become quite popular in HCMC and I would probably host at one of those as opposed to at home.

As an aside, I once advertised in a newspaper in Taiwan for players and got one Chinese asshole who saw Dungeon and thought I was opening a BDSM club. Eventually I fell in with a group of academics and played with them for some time before deciding late stage 2e was a fucking blight on the hobby and shortly thereafter debarked to Vietnam.

When not in quarantine hell, it's a pretty nice place to game as no one arrives with any preconceived ideas about what edition we'll play. The only problem is usually getting enough dice and rules copies for everyone and teaching everyone the rules.
