Need a name

Post by Stonegiant »

Need help with coming up with a name for a city on an Isle of Sorcery in a fantasy world which is similar to 10th century Anglo-Saxons in culture and technology.
I want to hear what you did in the dungeon, not the voting booth. Politics and rules minutia both bore me in my opinion.

Here's the first 10 results from Donjon's random human settlement generator, with the options toggled to "quasi-historical middle ages" and "Saxon."
Camor
Hawold
Hadun
Gracot
Galeah
Saburh
Padun
Haford
Tadun
Waburh

This is a remarkably clever name, and I'm really impressed with how apt it is. I hear echoes of a Tolkein reference (Gald = Galadriel) and a Lovecraft reference (Dun = Dunwich). The three syllables bring to mind mystical places the Saxons would have heard about, Avalon, Tintagel, Camelot. Go with this.

Glad you like it!

It's probably worth noting that "galdr" and its variants refer to magic/sorcery.

I like it as well. Once I have the map done I will post it up here

Gol'dang Galdredun I tell you what
The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. While its very representational of a high level adventure, it sends a clear message to the dumb: Satan is going to cornhole Miss USA with a big red member and theres nothing science or the military can do about it. - Gene Weigel

Here is the first of several panels. Once they are all done I'm going to stitch them all together. This one still needs all its labels.
