1970s art feed

Post by gizmomathboy »

I've come across a tumblr of 1970s scifi art

http://70sscifiart.tumblr.com/

While some of the art is book covers of shitty books, the art is still cool.

Available via a variety of social media feeds and good ol' RSS (my preferred media consumption method)

Looks great. I love that style of art. I've added it to my "Crystal Ball" (tumblr feeds) on the sidebar of my blog. Thanks.

Is it public domain? Some look like they could be while others do not.

Not that it matters. More a curiosity question in case someone used it in their fan-name products.

That was a pretty deep internet hole I just got out of... exhausting! Tons of images I haven't seen in years - thanks for the link.
(I don't think that much if any of it would be public domain)

Yeah, I don't think there is any way that is public domain.

Thanks to Big Mouse and Sony Bono, copyright is now life + 70 years of the creator, in perpetuity for shit owned by corporations. Since these were created in the 1970s they were extended when copyright got extended in the 1990s.

I recognize so many of the styles for the covers of the many books I've read and looked at.

Definitely lots of nostalgia there.

I was force marched into going to New York Comic Con last year as a chaperone for the kids and Jim Steranko was there with original artwork on display and the whole time I'm staring at his majestic head of hair instead. Here is a link to a 2016 interview so you can see for yourself:

Steranko, Neal Adams, Gene Colan... a fine generation of comic artists.

Jack Kirby will always be my favorite, but those guys that came on in the late 60s did some fine work.
