I wonder how much of it is generational/cultural and how much is personality traits...

Removing my own preferences for the various mediums from the equation, however, I do think streaming projects are a good idea to communicate with the younger generation.

The Internet is not content. It is angry.

I suspect that younger people do watch more podcasts, but my hunch is that it is not generational/cultural so much as that they have more free time than us. If I had the time to devote to D&D now that I did when I was young, I might watch more podcasts. It'd at least be a possibility. But my free time is limited and podcasts are a pretty inefficient way to consume information.

That said, it seems like podcasts generally are unscripted, unrehearsed broadcasts with low production values run by people with no screen presence. In other words, they are the contemporary equivalent of public access television. Who wishes they had spent more time watching public access television?

Public Access never had the number of views that even moderately popular youtube videos get.

Sure. The Internet provides for much wider distribution than local television stations did. The access got better, not the quality of the programming.

I don't consume podcasts, nor do I frequent gaming youtube channels. I don't spend any time on blogs either. What I do gravitate to is message boards. A site like DF or K&K has far more value to me than those other venues. And don't get me started on Facebook groups that have "1e" in title and then allow discussion about anything.

I do enjoy youtube greatly just not for gaming.

As much as I can bitch about the content, it does really cause the shift in our viewing habits. I got my first VCR in 1991. I was a junior in high school and I used this to tape all of my favorite shows. This VCR was awesome because it marked the commercials on the tape and it would automatically fast forward through them when I was watching it. I never found a VCR like that since.

My point is, I stopped watching shows at scheduled times after that. I always recorded things and watched them later. DVR came along and then On Demand content started becoming common. This internet is just that evolution. Search for something you want to watch, and watch it right now. Long gone are the days of, "ohh...it's 7 o'clock, we gotta catch Knight Rider".

Is that Shawn Woods (the mousetrap monday guy)? I think his videos are often interesting.

Cool. Those both sound like something I'd find worthwhile. I'll check them out.

It isn't just podcasts and vblogs, it's just about any news site content. Try reading an article without some fucking video firing up in the background blathering out a bunch of shit unrelated to what you came to the page for. And, never mind the fucking bandwidth and computing resources that bullshit consumes.

The modern web is a big steaming pile of shit.
