Players Handbook prices

Post by Welleran »

Hs anyone else noticed a significant uptick on prices for PHBs? I periodically troll eBay for crappy copies I can rebind. Usually ones with crap covers are pretty cheap. Not anymore. Seems to be mainly affecting PHB and none of the other books, based on my wholly inadequate analysis. I was thinking maybe some sort of Stranger Things effect.

You think the show is responsible for the increase in prices? Interesting theory.

I also look for copies of the rulebooks (I have yet to own any because I'm obsessed with finding mint/NM copies!) on Ebay, but am usually dismayed by the exorbitant prices.

I too have been hanging around eBay for 1e books. The prices aren't that bad considering the original books ranged from $12-15.

I’m not bemoaning the cost, it’s just that I’ve noticed a change in the past year. Previously I could get a PHB with a bad cover for $5-10 and a good one for $10-15. Now the prices are $10-15 above those. The supply seems about the same.

Personally, I have gobs of spare books so it’s more idle (idol?) curiosity about the PHBs.

If it's "buy it now", most of those are resellers. I wouldn't be surprised if resellers didn't raise prices as AD&D's cultural visibility swings up again.

Old editions are getting up there pretty much across the board. Stranger Things I'm sure is a factor, but I also think the release of 5E, and the re-release of legel PDFs are also helping the cause. Not any one thing.

Or, it could be all the ashcans from Amazon have fled to EBay and are now poisoning the well...

I've noticed the prices of many collectibles on eBay are going up. The world economy is good and consumer sentiment is supposedly higher than average. Perhaps we have a convergence in the force?

To make ends meet I've been ebaying off RPG junk I've collected over the years - with only a few exceptions, nothing "beloved" (you can have my autographed OD&D books when you pry them from my COLD, DEAD HANDS) but just things I grabbed at the used book store "Oh, look, something for an RPG called "Ysgarth", $1.50."...then last year I sold it for like $50. I mean, it's what the market will bear so...yeah.

Ah, if you have any more Ysgarth stuff hanging around, I might be interested in checking it out. A friend had copied some of that for me BITD because he loved it way more than D&D, but I eventually ditched the copies, since I was never going to play it. Some of the adventures and pathenon/gods-related supplements look interesting-ish now....

Nah, sorry man. It was one book that sat on my shelf for like...8, 10 years and I eBayed it off a couple years back.
