Allan: So far, that's 1.5 megadungeons (counting Blackmmor as one and the RJK pieces as 0.5). I will believe the others when I see them!

Wasn't that funded like...2 and a half years ago? It sounded to me that it was more of a Benoist project than a Ernie one.Melan wrote:(And let's not forget The Hobby Shop Dungeon, still being worked on after a Kickstarter that became too successful for its own good.)
I did find a Tonisborg reference here...

...but sadly...fucking Google blogs keep messing up search results because other bloggers are adding Hidden in Shadows to their fricken feeds.

FYI, just saw a nice large photo of the Jakallan Underworld map here: http://odd74.proboards.com/post/204982/thread
(I couldn't get the image to post here at a reasonably small size)

Yup...TRP wrote:So, at times when ancient Israel needed moral guidance, or faced a crises, the priests would just so happen to "re"-discover "lost" books that would bolster the priests' sentiments on the circumstances of the moment.
...and yup. This is a pretty cool rediscovery, which I have zero doubt is going to be blown completely out of proportion and treated as a new sacred text by those inclined to such behavior.
Tonisborg rang a bell from my time researching the Dawn Dayes of Blackmoor, but it's only a name to me. Greg seems like a pretty cool guy, and I think, with sufficient prodding, he may release stuff.

I don't know if it will be treated as a "sacred text" but I think it will be one more example of how the game was played as a rolling game as opposed to the "outlined adventure" we later fell into. It will be interesting to see.

That type of scam was definitely not confined to ancient Israel. The Sibylline Books in Rome (kept under lock and key by the priests of course, with the death penalty for unauthorized consultation) were a rich source of "prophecies" to deal with the current political situation.TRP wrote:So, at times when ancient Israel needed moral guidance, or faced a crises, the priests would just so happen to "re"-discover "lost" books that would bolster the priests' sentiments on the circumstances of the moment.

Re: Anyone Ever Heard of Tonisborg???
Dan Boggs has another post up about Tonisborg:
Tonisborg Part II
Here's part of Level 3 that he shows. The Arnesonian diagonal dungeons are neat, but I shudder involuntarily every time I imagine trying to run them. The green areas (which were colored on this photocopy by Dave Megarry) are the secret areas, so secret doors were indicated just by placing a thin wall area between one corridor and the next.

What is it with those rascally Old Schoolers and their durned diagonal corridors?!?

It separates the men from the boys when it comes to mapping.ThirstyStirge wrote:What is it with those rascally Old Schoolers and their durned diagonal corridors?!?

Huh. My players are all new school. They refuse to map out dungeons. (They were raised on "battle-grids".)
I've seen the Blackmoor Castle Dungeon maps, and every level looks a lot like the map Zenopus posted!

If you just turn them 45° they mostly become orthogonal anyway.
Re: Anyone Ever Heard of Tonisborg???
Isn't Tonisburg where Red Skull took the Tesseract from the Priest?

That would be a mistake in my games.bobjester wrote:Huh. My players are all new school. They refuse to map out dungeons. (They were raised on "battle-grids".)
Yes. I wonder what inspired Arneson to draw them that way.I've seen the Blackmoor Castle Dungeon maps, and every level looks a lot like the map Zenopus posted!

It's damn close: Tonsberg, Norway.francisca wrote:Isn't Tonisburg where Red Skull took the Tesseract from the Priest?
I smell a really good conspiracy theory in there somewhere.
