AD&D with me and the boys tonight: a table of 7 players with me DMing. They defeated a group of 10 brigands and their leader in the DMG monastery dungeon, killed a couple of fire beetles while searching the brigands' eastern room (and the found the secret trapdoor in the floor, leading to the good loot!), then were surprised by a second group of brigands returning to the monastery from a raid.

The brigands had 2 rounds of surprise, which they used to wedge closed the door to the room where the players were. Then they grabbed the weapons looted from their previously-defeated comrades (rescuing one who was tied up by the PCs) and took off, closing the portcullis on the way out. (They didn't know about their leader's secret cache, or they might have stayed to fight for it). I need to roll later to see if they grabbed a few of their prisoners on the way out, but the chances are low....

Kid on the front left... is he pulling the arched eyebrow look? If so "rock on, kid!!"

Good stuff, paperwork now, but maybe I'll pull out the books later to see if the girls want to play!

Thanks Allan,

Yeah, that's Ethan's friend Cooper, who he met in 3rd grade. Cooper's a big Dr. Who fan, too.

Always happy to spread a little inspiration around, Ron :D

Speaking of paperwork, I rolled up the treasure in the bandit leader's secret room and they had some nice loot (even with reducing it by 90% since there were only 20 bandits in the gang): 300ep, 2 gems (200gp, 5gp), 2 jewelry (1900gp, 1200gp), hand axe +1. Now I just have to figure out how its trapped! :D

Awesome, that whole table looks like the buddies I played with 35 or so years younger of course. :D

Apparently Voltron: Legendary Defender season 4 just dropped on Netflix. The binge watching has begun for the 13yo and 10yo, the 15yo is at a Marching Band competition and the missus and 7yo went to watch the competition. Even though there are two girls in the living room, I am essentially daughter-less  - no D&D tonight. Sigh.

Can't wait to hear about Ethan, Cooper and crew's next game!

Re: teens to play for first time tonight! - DMG monastery ma

Gearing up for play again this afternoon!

Here's the level 2 map that I created ages ago, and recently rendered by Ramsey Dow of Sickly Purple Death Ray fame:
gh_grodog_ruined_-monastery-level-2-caverns-ramsey-dow.jpg
My original level 2 monastery map is at http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/te ... averns.pdf, but it somehow looks better cleanly-rendered, doesn't it? :D

Map notes:

1. No key available yet, sorry.
2. There should be a slope that's not marked in either map in the corridor to the south of the entry stairwell, sloping down from SW to NE toward the door near the pit. Noticed that flaw after looking at Ramsey's map....

Oh wow! Ramsey still does commissions.

On the two levels, how do they link up? The diagonal stairs? Where is North on the second level map?
