A1 was the first module I boght for myself with my own money, and I'm still wonderfully fond of it! Well-worth picking up, Axe (and if it turns out you don't have a copy, I'm sure I have a beat up one somewhere that I can send to you :D ).

Count me among the fans of A1. It never played out as a linear thing for us. In non-tournament play, the top level has several entrances all with interesting encounters. As mentioned, there's some great encounters and new monsters on the lower levels.

TFoster's point on A1 as possibly the most owned/played AD&D module is interesting, as I've probably run it more than any other TSR AD&D module, probably owning in no small part to its level range.

The disbelief is in that you've never heard of it. I'm sure the entire Slave series has been discussed here numerous times over the years.

Ahha, its part of the slave lords series. Yep we never played any of it (just not alot of interest in "doing good" (stopping slavers, half our bunch wanted to be slavers). Plus I think we thought it would be sorta railroady (I recall wondering if players would be expected to become slaves). Remember back when they were knew, the modules came in plastic ($15 was alot back then), and we couldn't open them. Anyhow, our players wanted to get out into the wilderness and fight griffons and go underground and shit (so the Giant Series would be more up our alley for a series). And there was nothing wrong with our own dungeons.

Thanks Grodog, I'll see what I can find online first, don't want to put you out (the cover of this looks worth it alone). It sounds like A1 is definitely worth trying out, maybe in a couple weeks once we finish our current dungeon. Are A2 and A3 also worth playing?

Foster, didn't you and Wheggi both like Dungeon Land? If so, I can't call that too snobby, that was way out there. Not my favorite Gygax module.
