Hi all,
I was wondering about the effect of a Dragon Turtles breath weapon versus a ring of fire resistance and/or the resist fire clerical spell. It is not technically fire but it is obviously hot enough to kill most creatures caught in its path. Any thoughts on this? Thank you in advance.

I don't think there's a btb answer on this. It's one of those areas of the game with elbow room for each DM to decide.
If I were to make a pro argument, it would be that clearly protection from/resist fire magic gives a temperature immunity; resist fire even says that "boiling temperature is comfortable". So, whether there was fire involved or not I would allow it, because there is no "resist hot" spell, and resist fire is intended for a more general use.
If I were to make a con argument, it would be that fire is its own element, and superheated steam is not of that element, but instead water. Since the elements are different though the effects are similar, protection from/resist fire magic is not activated when the temperature increase happens.
Personally, I would go with the pro argument. Super scalding steam isn't a common enough attack form to really warrant researching a unique spell and carrying it in memory, "just in case".

I'd allow either of those to protect. Both say they work against heat.
