I got a Kindle Fire last January and have enjoyed it very much. I have ended up watching more Netflix on it than reading.

I've got one, and IMO, it's only worth it if you also have Amazon Prime. Otherwise, I'd probably go with the Nexus 7.

OK, wow! I didn't realize the 8GB model was only 199 bucks. I might have to scoop one of these up!
The DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE City of Brass cover is good and bad at the same time. While its very representational of a high level adventure, it sends a clear message to the dumb: Satan is going to cornhole Miss USA with a big red member and theres nothing science or the military can do about it. - Gene Weigel

I went ahead and ordered a Nexus 7 from the bookstore at school. Got my phone fixed, though. Just a bad battery.

I'm really sold on the Nexus 7, and impressed with the latest Android (i.e., Jelly Bean). I may even end up with an Android phone instead of another iPhone next time I upgrade. (Assuming Apple's legal team doesn't succeed in killing them. )

The only danger Apple poses is to itself. Last time they were Jobless, they nearly went jobless.

The reality distortion field is down and those who failed their saving throw from 1996-2012 can now clearly see that apple is a horrid, horrid company which in spite of (or perhaps because of) their miniscule slice of the computing world (seriously, there are more droid phones than iOS, more Droid tabs than iOS, FAR more notebooks and desktops running Windows than OSX, etc.) they are well and truly as vicious as a 1990s Microsoft or 1980s IBM (or '70s DEC or '60s IBM or '50s IBM).

Eh, I only partly agree. I won't argue with the numbers/market share, but I still vastly prefer OS X over Windows (although now my main workstation is running Linux). I imagine I'll always prefer pretty much any version or variant of UNIX over Windows. (That said, in some ways Apple has been moving OS X away from its UNIX core.) And I had looked at earlier versions of Android and just wasn't as impressed as I am with the latest release (which is one reason I ended up with an iPhone). But Android has improved since then: using Jelly Bean feels just as nice and just as natural as using iOS, and when you factor in the more open nature of the Android platform, it decisively tips the scales in Android's favor, IMO.

Nevertheless, I absolutely agree with the part about Apple acting horrid. I don't like the way Apple is conducting itself as a company within the industry, with this crap like patenting a curved rectangle and going nuclear with lawsuits, etc, etc. Frankly, it really turns me off and is definitely a factor in my thinking, pushing me even more solidly towards Android. Google isn't necessarily all saintly, either, but at least they're not pulling the crap Apple has been up to.

Crap. The left side of my N7's screen started coming loose from the housing. I sent it back to Google and they're sending me a replacement. Hopefully they'll act swiftly, because not having a tablet hammers home how accustomed I've become to using one!

Ha, ha; I know that feeling all too well. My Sony Xperia has been recalled because of a manufacturing error that means 6-in-10 of them are not waterproof as advertised; I am not sure that I care enough to be without my tablet for a week or more. :D
