Uses for Charm Person

In a recent thread I suggested a 1st level MU could use charm person to take out very high level NPCs or PCs. If the target fails to save (its easy to role a 1 or 2) the MU could opt to kill that 13th level bad boy and take his stuff in any number of creative ways (sleeping drunk cut his throat, climbing down a rope first thats then cut etc.). Do you think this is fare or an abuse of the spell? Granted, most high level bad boys have pals around. But then again not always.

Totally fair.

I never noticed it before but OSRIC has a ceiling on Hit Dice whereas the PHB does not.

I think it's fair too.

In the case of the rope however I think I'd give a chance for retaliation. The charmed person might notice the rope being sawn through, they get their save, which they make, then they get a chance to fire off a spell or magic item effect perhaps.

Depends on the context, but given that the person is not asked to do something uncharacteristic or against their own better judgement without good reason, it should be fine. Many such tricks are not dependent upon a charm to work, of course.

Totally fair. Just as it will be when his high level buddies use divination spells to discover what happened to their friend.
