Never noticed this before:

Mental communication between charmer and charmee extends only to sight range or up to a 60' radius if not in sight range. Magic circles of protection (spells or specially drawn) will break the communication link and seemingly cause the charm to be broken, but unless magically dispelled, or until the power of the magic wears off, the effect is again evident when the charmee is outside such protection. – DMG, page 65

Actually lends more than just “flavor” credit to the Aerial Servant protective circles on page 42 of the DMG!

I wonder if this would also apply to the Paladin's Protection from Evil ability as well?

Actually, that is in the paragraph titled Monster Charm Powers... the first two sentences of which state:

The magical charming power of creatures such as nixies and vampires is much more powerful than that of the simple Charm Person spell. While it will eventually wear off, until it does, the charmee is subject to the mental commands by the charmer, unlike either the charm person or charm monster spell/

So, clerics and magic-users do NOT have this "mental command" ability.

But there's still the hidden quasit and imp familiar possibility, so all hope is not lost!

DOH! I should have been more clear in my meaning...

I was referring to the magic circles! No spell needed to break the charm power... just draw a circle!

Ah... I see (said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer and saw)!

However... you would need to be a pretty fast circle-artist to make this very useful in all but the most unusual circumstances.

But if the circumstances ARE correct, this could really screw with the vampire/nixie/etc... especially if you draw the circle around an entire building or complex, while the vampire and his "robot" are outside the area.

Yeah, there would definitely have to be some "pre-task planning" involved. I'm sure any DM's querry as to a Magic-User's intent at the onset of a combat round against a vampire and its minions, in which the response is, "Um, OK... so I draw a magic circle around myself and the rest of the party." would be met with an arched brow.
