Ring of Free Action

Curious what others allow this ring to apply to (besides the spells listed). Does this work on regular giant webs or only the web spell? If it works on non-magical webs what else might it work on? For instance, would it prevent a PC wearing such a ring from being pinned by a tentacle?

I let it work on things that passively resist the character's movement, but not things that actively impede it. So spider webs, entangle spells, dense thickets etc. are subject to a ring of free action but a squeezing tentacle isn't.

The D/Q module question is, how does a ring of free action impact a wand of viscid blobs's blobs? I rule that they're non-functional against the PC, just like a web spell.

Yes, indeed. I would add the caveat, no walking through cell bars, walls, or closed doors. :D

I've never payed much attention to this item, but reading it now I see that it leaves a lot to the DM's discretion. BtB the only things specifically covered are actions while impacted by "web, hold, or slow spell, or even while under water." I like P&P's active vs passive ruling, but what about being tied up? Or caught in a Net of Entrapment? Snagged by a Rope of Entanglement?

I look at it as the ring stopping anything that would impede the movement of the wearer of the ring that does not cause physical damage (hold, web, etc.)

A tentacle would still cause damage as it's sole function is not to hold , but to cause damage. I would rule a magic tentacle of holding would not work as it is only trying to impede.

Would be cool to see one of Axe's f-ing gnome characters picked up and being crushed by a giant octopus.
