Have any of you conducted a BTB aerial combat? How well did it work?

Yes... back in the mid-1980s, so I have little recollection of how well it worked.

I seem to remember it being a fun session, and I believe the DM tried to conduct it "by the rules", so it must have worked pretty well.

I don't think I ever used the Aerial combat rules. Ever.

I have a couple of times. Mostly they involved flying opponents attacking PC's. I've found the rules as written more than adequate to deal with such situations. I'd note, however, that important things to keep in mind are manueverability classes, diving attacks, and damage on winged opponents (as it will eventually necessitate that they land or crash).
