Remember that the origin of level titles goes back to dungeon creation and room keying. If a DM wrote in "Myrmadon", for example, it was assumed to be a 6th level fighting man. Arneson's Blackmoor dungeons are done that way, as are the Monster & Treasure Assortment booklets.

Thanks Fin, I've never heard that before. Makes for a less dry/ more colorful dungeon creation process perhaps. Also suggest a DM would know this stuff at a glance.
