What character sheets are you using?

I usually use the normal 1e AD&D sheets (with the "Move" boot, etc.), but they're kinda cramped and I'm thinking about switching to something a bit cleaner.

One requirement: no space wasted on non-weapon proficiencies, please...

The OSRIC one with some tweaks scrawled over the top in pencil: STR-doors, STR-BB/LG, Saving throw names, range adjustments (0/-2/-5), THAC0 per weapon, languages.

I use the OSRIC character sheet PDF that doesn't have the shaded boxes. Just wireframe/straight lines for boxes. Can't remember if that shows up somewhere with a Google search or if it's in the OSRIC PDF.

Here's the first two pages of a 2e one I wrote in LaTeX in 1999. Since you're a TeX guy it might be of interest to you since you can 1e-ify it: just remove some bits basically. (The source probably isn't the most elegant/glorious LaTeX you've seen...)

Maybe I might pick this up in the future and make something decent of it. Just let me know if that sounds worthwhile.

These days I don't really worry about having things like clerical turning, thief abilities actually represented in the character sheet. I can manually represent that info including the calculations used to derive the numbers in the "class abilities" box in a more spartan sheet like the OSRIC one anyhow.

We use scrap paper, it always seemed like a waste of ink to print the things out. I had a bunch of second edition ones in my teens that I had gotten my father to photocopy at work, but found them too cramped over all.

I think capitalbill writes it all down across two notebook pages and Fridge uses something he prints out, but I'm not sure exactly what version it is.

I was really impressed an enamored with Capitalbill's notebook when I saw it at NTRPG Con.

For D&D I use blank paper or Mad Irishman's reproduction of the Basic character sheet from the Mentzer Basic Set.

I, too, have always found the commercial sheets "too cramped" for the most part.

One of my players made a new version of the Flashing Blades sheet that I've been using but I'm in the process of designing one as part of the character generator program I'm writing.

The OSRIC one in action... it's a lot messier now.

I'm looking for something more in-depth than a Basic/Expert style sheet, but not as cramped as the official AD&D sheets. The OSRIC sheet isn't bad, but since I'm using Weapon vs. AC I wanted one with a blank "to hit" table for each weapon.

Hmm. Maybe I *will* take a look at coming up with something home-brewed (LaTeX or otherwise).

EDIT: And maybe handwritten on graph paper would be easier and just as effective. I'll ask the players. I know they didn't care for the official AD&D sheets we used last session (and none of those players have any nostalgic attachment to that sheet).

We use the goldenrod sheets, and I let the players fill out as much of it, or as little, as they like.

Lately I've just been using a half-page of graph paper for each character in Chainsaw's game (with an extra page for Paxton's treasure and equipment.



Assuming Asgeirr keeps on trucking I'll be recording them both into my moleskine. Here is the spread for when Paxton and Brother David were adventuring (note the scratched out "Animal Companion" entry for Paxton and the loss of four hit points).

Do you have the original source documents, or just the image files of the sheet?

I've got a it in Microsoft Word 2010 and PDF. Want a copy? I'll warn you that it is custom built for some of my house rules so it may take a little (but most likely not much) conversion to be of use to you.
