Ring of Fire Resistance

Does a ring of fire resistance extend its power to the items on the wearer's person (i.e. armor, clothing, gear, etc.)? I've always ruled it did and thought the DMG stated as much. But, a player in my campaign just acquired one and I checked the DMG and it makes no mention of protection for the character's possessions. Is there a BTB rule out there? If not, I'm inclined to continue to rule it does protect the items on the wearer's person much like a ring of invisibilty makes both the wearer and his possessions invisible.

Just checked, you are right about both rings. If the invisibility ring doesn't state "clothes and stuff" then I'd rule both protect everything on your person.

I'd have ruled it did anyway. But never noticed that it didn't specify "and all the PC's equipment" or the like before. Thanks!

PS: though I'm sure there's errata, or forum posts, or other things galore that I just missed. ;)

Normal fire = total protection for items

Magical fire = protection for items subsumed into your enhanced personal saving throw. If you fail an enhanced saving throw than the ring's protection was bypassed. Item saving throws would be normal.

That's the way I've always ruled it; curious to see other's opinions.

Ditto: I love item saving throws!
