Favorite Miniatures

Some guys in my group have been painting miniatures lately, so I've got miniatures on the brain. In fact, I might even be persuaded to buy a few new ones even though I already have plenty that remain unpainted ( ). We don't really use them in game, but they're cool to look at and paint and just have around. It's just sort of an extension of the hobby, I guess.

Anyway, if you've got a pic of your favorite miniature(s), whether it's an adventurer or a monster, painted or unpainted, I'd love to see it.

I totally blame Ligedog for Chainsaw's growing contemplation of miniatures. He started it. :D

Here is the mini I painted last week, the first I've painted in many years. I felt it would be best to practice on some old miniatures before slapping paint on new ones.

Although I've still got some finishing touches to do with him, I was pretty pleased with how this guy turned out. I ordered up a crew of adventurers that I'll be getting started on this week. Two will work well as my adventurers in Chainsaw's WDR game.

I've got that middle guy with the lantern, I'll post a pic later of how he turned out.

Awesome! I'd love to see it. He and the cleric are my favorites.

Very nice! These sort of look like some of the Ral Partha figs that Iron Wind Metals is casting these days. Where did you get these from, capitalbill?

I've been considering painting some minis again recently... I'm horrible at it, but it's fun.
I played Warhammer 40k for a little while (gave it up--time and money concerns vs time and money spent on RPGs) and loved painting, basing, terrain, etc.

Friend of mine loves to collect minis and has a lot unpainted. Maybe the next time we want to hang out but can't put together gaming we'll paint... I'll post pictures of what my wife paints. She's the actual artist in this family. ;)

Practice dry brushing and get some good ink washes. You'd be surprised how much that alone can do.

Also, working from the deepest areas outwards helps a great deal.

It's been years since I painted miniatures, but I did enjoy it. Maybe I should do it again.

Sure is! :D I've long since lost the box, game board, furniture, cards, etc. But I somehow managed to hang on to some of the minis.

I found these at http://www.megaminis.com/; they are some old Grenadier minis that are being cast by Mega Miniatures.

Between the camera and the lousey lighting, I can't get a very good photo. But here's a Ral Partha fighter that I'm pretty happy with, the flash and photo quality not withstanding:

I'm genrally partial to Ral Partha minis and Heritage minis, like these:

The sorcerer on the left, the pointy hated wizard, and the yellow-and black fighter/cleric were painted back in the day. They came from the Heritage Dungeon Dwellers line, in the Crypt of the Sorcerer package.

I recently painted up a Great Race of Yith mini. I'll take a picture and post it. I liked how it came out.

I would be able to paint minis quite well, except I lack the time, money, and talent. :(

I've switched to plastic minis.
