While I still prefer the original covers, the new covers could be a LOT worse. I'm pleased.

I'm having trouble telling what exactly is on the Monster Manual cover. Is that a red dragon? It's kind of blurry for me.

I think it's the red dragon from the original MM cover.

I'd grown attached to the idea of really high quality Michael Komarck (or someone else at that level) reimaginings of the original scenes, but this is probably the next best thing, and certainly better than either a typical 4E/Pathfinder-ish Wayne Reynolds piece or some new "retro-styled" piece. I can definitely live with these. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed as to the quality of the reproduction and the binding.

I saw someone point out elsewhere that the 'Advanced' was not present on the PHB (the one we can see). I'm also attempting to read the blurb on the bar by the seal. Premier(?) <something> Players Handbook... AFAICT

Ed Greenwood presents Elminster's Forgotten Realms. All Ed's campaign notes from his game. It's a "what if" product. Ed goes wild! A celebration of Forgotten Realms and letting everyone check out Ed's campaign (or copy it in your own FR game). No exact release date for it, but sometime after the summer.

Q: What about electronic support for old edition sourcebooks? We want to buy these.
A: We are def looking at it and planning.

Q: Are you happy with the digital versions of Dungeon/Dragon? Any physical copies?
A: We've considered doing collections again.

A: Yes! We only really replaced the ads in the back and added about the Gygax fund.

A: As system-neutral as possible. Want many people to find it useful and cool.

I’m not surprised it doesn’t say Advanced on the cover. After all, it’s not Advanced in relation to 4e. It’s Classic in relation to 4e.

I'm much happier than I was an hour ago. I didn't realize that the art on the covers was taken from the original art of Sutherland and Trampier. I thought it was only "inspired by".

I saw that too. Can't say I am terribly surprised. At least the rest is not total suckage. Plus, the interior will still have all the Advanced references.

it's advanced if you're some simpleton mong who thinks you should get savegames (yes I've seen this - going all the way back to 3.0) or that the rust monster, green slime, grey ooze, etc. and save v. death, level drain etc. for 1e are just there to promulgate "bad" DMing.

The twitter post also indicates the bottom seal and band are not part of the cover itself. Though I'd imagine the Wizards logo and such stuff will be in that place. Here's hoping for the full cover brown.

Another thing I am not crazy about, but let us hope maybe it's just a brown cover and not puffy faux leather or some such crap.

I would expect something akin to the PHB2 of 3rd ed, that is, a sturdy carton cover with a glossy finish, rather than "leatherette". That's what these covers look like to me. And I honestly would be floored if the binding was crap. WotC's products are very high quality in that regard (I got a near complete 3rd ed WotC books collection holding very well with the passage of time to prove it, actually).
