Re: Your favorite album cover (NOTE: No longer SFW)
Since someone else already crossed the bad taste - nsfw line, this is the first album cover that came to mind.

Well, I actually had a bit of a hard time thinking of a favourite album cover, however this one kept coming to mind:

Bunch of dudes with shit eating grins playing D&D underwater...or something like that.
Here's one for the NSFW enthusiasts(NB, have not listened to this one. Its contents sound...interesting. To put it nicely.:

Classic. Steve Albini is a genius. It's not as offensive as the title lets on.Mudguard wrote: Here's one for the NSFW enthusiasts(NB, have not listened to this one. It's contents sound...interesting. To put it nicely.:
Good industrial edged punk rock.
Re: Your favorite album cover (NOTE: No longer SFW)
Yeah, I've heard he's awesome. It's just that I read something disturbing yesterday about one of the songs on the Songs About Fucking album...something about a Columbian Necktie.
Err..edit.

Spiderland was fantastic, I didn't realize he produced it. Or are you talking about their second album?Mudguard wrote:Yeah, I've heard he's awesome. He produced the Slint album...so I already have the hots for him. Columbian Necktie is a badass song. Bad Penny is probably my favorite on the album.
L. Dopa is jammin', too. And Fish Fry.
Ok, there's a lot of good songs on it.

No, I'm sorry I edited my post after I thought about it. I checked the facts and he was involved with the first album Tweez which is also ACE.

I don't think I've heard anything off of Tweez. Spiderland is the only one I really know well.Mudguard wrote:No, I'm sorry I edited my post after I thought about it. I checked the facts and he was involved with the first album Tweez which is also ACE.

Awesome album. They also do a nice take on "The Model", which a lot of groups have. This version however, still sticks in my head when I hear another group do it.

Yeah, I'd say it's the mid-point between Minor Threat and Nine Inch Nails. Great album. The CD version has a great cover of Cheap Trick's "He's a Whore" as a bonus track.DungeonDork wrote:Classic. The Racer X EP has some good stuff on it as well. Deep Six and The Ugly American were probably my favorites on that one. Albini is a beast.

Wow. I have to say I was totally into the punk "scene" back in the early 80's (Sex Pistols, Ramones, 7 Seconds, Black Flag, Dead Milkmen, Dean Kennedys, etc.), but I ended up "re-exploring" my Progressive/Classic Rock roots by the time I was in college in the mid/late 80's (I blame Mary Jane). I'm very sorry I missed out on Big Black. I will definitely have to check this out.

Huh. I got a topic reply notification in my email, but no new posts in this thread.
Anyhoo, I just have to say that I'm having a gut wrenching time just going through the worst album covers of all time as if I'd never seen this url before. The thing that wrenches the gut is knowing that some of my favorite Scorpions songs are from some of these albums - and I feel just a little shamed.
Just a little. Not enough to not listen to those songs again, mind you...

Yeah and they somehow didn't have the German version of the Virgin Killers album on the list, which is definitely the Scorp's worst/most tasteless album cover ever. And yet still an amazing album.bobjester wrote:Huh. I got a topic reply notification in my email, but no new posts in this thread.

But I think Sabotage might win the contest for the worst album cover/best album ratio. Also Sabbath at their most straight-up pissed off...

Bill Ward's pants in that Black Sabbath cover have always seemed a bad choice to me.

Legend is, they're his wife's. Ditto the kimono dress thing Ozzy's wearing.ligedog wrote:Bill Ward's pants in that Black Sabbath cover have always seemed a bad choice to me.
The story is the band was posing for what they thought was the mock up for the album cover. They didn't want to do it and took the piss out of it (as I believe the English might say) by wearing some bizarre clothing. Depending on the version of the story, the photographer who was annoyed by their attitude or their manager or record company who they were in litigation with, used the shitty mockup to get revenge on the band. Also possible that they were never sober enough to do the real shoot, so they had to use the mock up.
