Aye, that's a disturbing book.

Currently slogging through I am Providence, the doorstop-sized two volume biography of H. P. Lovecraft by S. T. Joshi, at the rate of about 20 pages/night. It's actually not half bad. I've reached page 200 of vol. 1, and age 24, so there is an excruciating level of detail, which of course might not be for everyone.

I visited the Red Army Museum in Moscow a few years ago - it showed.

Ah, love those. I envy you, if you're reading them for the first time. I'm working my way through the entirety of Vance's SF (and have a few of his mysteries on my reading list as well), and the
Tschai novels are some of my favorites.

Yes, just finished The Dirdir last night, but I now have to track down a copy of the 4th book, since it's not in any of my used bookstores in Wichita or San Jose (Amazon, here I come

).

The Children of Odin, Padraic Colum. A children's book of Norse myths. Enjoying it thoroughly. (It's no wonder dwarves should be allowed unlimited advancement as thieves, the fact that everyone gets U for thieves notwithstanding.)

The Shaman wrote:I put Willa Cather's Shadows on the Rock aside so I could finish Harold Lamb's Wolf of the Steppes; after I finish these two it's on to Mr Lamb's Warrior of the Steppes, the second volume of Khlit the Cossack stories.
After finishing
Shadows on the Rock and
Wolf of the Steppes, I started
Warriors of the Steppes, but after finishing the first story, I put it aside to read Rafael Sabatini's
Saint Martin's Summer.
That should not be taken as anything negative about
Warriors of the Steppe; Harold Lamb is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I'm pulling characters from
Saint Martin's Summer for my
Flashing Blades game.

Use of Weapons, by Iain Banks. I've pretty much dropped fantasy off the list the last couple of years and focused on sci-fi.
