Still working on the last few pages of Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, however, I've also started in on Howard L. Cory's sword & planet tale, The Sword of Lankor.

That's odd, I just logged in this thread to mention I'm reading Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The last time I read it was around 1984.

I'm also on Book 4 of the Demon Princes by Jack Vance: The Face. While many of Vance's enthusiasts had to wait several years to read book 4 of this series, my wait between was only a matter of weeks.

Also, Kull: Exile of Atlantis, by Robert E. Howard. Re-reading these for the first time since high school.

(The copyright says 1950 Hillman Periodicals, but the price on the book is 75¢ - which seems a little high for a paperback of that era.)

I will be working on shield designs, standards, flags, banners, badges, liveries, mottoes, etc. to my 0e game, and I might design a coat of arms for myself. So far, out of the possible mottoes I've considered, Not in the face! tops the list.

That's kewl. I know the coat of arms my mom's side of the family used before they came to North America. Imteresting stuff.

Well, at least one good thing has come of this new barbarian movie - I was able to buy a book with a few REH Conan stories from the airport bookstore. Red Nails kicks ass!!

Thomas Howard's collection of essays The Night is Far Spent
Dumas' The Three Musketeers (LeClerc's translation)

and reading The Jungle Book to my oldest at bedtime (he's not reading The Hobbit to himself during the day).

Continuing in the ERB John Carter of Mars series, I'm nearly through reading The Chessmen of Mars. Next up is The Master Mind of Mars.


Unrelatedly, the first couple of batches of Barsoomian minis have arrived. I haven't had time to start on them yet, but they look pretty fun!

The three Del Rey volumes, all still in print and pretty inexpensive:
The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian
The Bloody Crown of Conan
The Conquering Sword of Conan

While I recommend reading them in that order, if you want to commit to only a single volume, I'd go with The Conquering Sword of Conan since it includes what I consider the two best Conan tales: "Beyond the Black River" and "Red Nails".

Probably better to get the Complete Chronicles of Conan, as it is a nice cheap hardback, unless you are worried about portability that is.

Start with The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian for sure.
