I'm not badmouthing DF as I have enjoyed it for several years now, and it helped tremendously during my resurgence into AD&D.

Sometimes it's nice just to be able to write 'Fuck you, you immature shithead' and not have the world come down in tears.

I'm certainly not criticizing anyone else for saying anything about DF. I'm just explaining why I try to avoid doing it.

Absolutely.

Once I realized I was no longer learning anything new on Dragonsfoot, I stopped worrying about reading everything. Much of my time was spent defending positions I'd arrived at after long reason to new recruits who hadn't been through the discussions before, and there was no way I was going to try to recreate it all.

So I just display the "View New Posts" list and only read the threads that seem interesting to me. I avoid polls ("What's your favorite blah-blah?"), as they're just places for people to boast about their campaign details that nobody cares about. The only people I bother putting on my foes list are the ones who make a habit of being daffy and uninteresting, or the ones whom I plonk for being personally nasty.

I end up skipping the great majority of Dragonsfoot topics. I don't need to waste my time. Once in a while, when someone posts something that demonstrates a woeful lack of understanding of the basic nature of the game, I'll chime in, but I won't bother with much of a defense if they don't believe me. Take it or leave it. I don't need my feelings hurt because of a bunch of self-important geeks.

Good rule of thumb: Avoid "What do you think of my house rules?" threads. Always a train wreck.

Thanks, everybody, for allowing me to vent in public here. Complaining on one board about another board's moderation policies is generally considered bad form and not something I want to encourage here, so please do as I say and not as I do in this regard. "Blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol"

I wish K&KA had more activity though. I wonder if it is increasing?

There's an ebb and flood to it. We're in the Summer Ebb right now.

Frankly, I don't want to discuss this with a ten foot pole anymore.

However, in lieu of clearing up the "why" of how somebody could be that against somebody. Well... I mentioned a while back that I got myself thrown out of whack because they did a Q&A on him and I told them that it was in bad taste to feature the two (him and Gygax) because of how he was so close to Gary as an assistant that he had a hand in the takeover.

Thats why I get punchy over it. The story of how official D&D died from Gary's first person just made it all real.

Recently Gary's son Luke said that he'd invite Cook to GaryCon for a game of Star Frontiers!

That made me do a triple take! ;)

I think the time to let go of the Cook hate is done for me and just let D&D THE NEXT GENERATION have their "game wizard".

He just wanted to make money and thought he could pull it off. He didn't and fuck us for thinking it was going to get better if you were a "buyer" like me.

If only Gary had went with Allen Hammack as an assistant...

Rue...

Rue...

Rue...

;)

Seriously, its time for me to let it all go and take heed of Gary's point of view even if he didn't think much of this particular person but regarding others he was of an attitude that they were once okay and then went sour during the rise of popularity of the game long before 2e.

The same can be said of Zeb. He fucked up his friend and mentor and rode it for years. But can he go back?

Maybe.

Fuck, you know that some people that I know, know the whole story and they're still willing to give his early adventures merit for "being there".

Maybe he has another adventure left in him but the the minute he starts talking like he's the "game wizard"...RUN!!!!

;)

Just post those awesome session summaries here. That may do it. I usually can't stand game reports (I usually find other's games boring :P ), but the Tomb of Horrors recaps you posted were pure gold.

I'm firmly in the "Gene should post more" camp.

Tomb of Horrors makes for awesome stories. No other module does. It's just the way it is. :D

As Flambeaux said, summer's an ebb in posting. It will pick up in a couple of months.

And I've forgotten which Zeb Cook modules I like, but I like a couple of them a whole lot. Don't really care who screwed who at TSR or how many scimitars can fit in one emo drow, because I'm not much into the game's history.

But altering someone's post without a moderator note is very bad form.

Did I hit all of this thread's various topics? :D

How do you feel about Rush and/or Tori Amos?

Well... I had to google Tori Amos to find out it it was human, or what... and didn't recognize a single song, band, or such... so I'll say "Tori who?".

Rush, now... I've been listening to, and enjoying, their music since 1978.

Same with Tull... both are music where you actually listen to, and think about, the lyrics.

Rare these days.

I think on a board like DF heavy moderation is needed to keep the clowns in line. Unfortunately the guys who get the sneaky modding aren't the ones who really need it. Pretty misdirected if you ask me.

BTW, I think if you publiclly hate Tori Amos N.O.W. puts you on a special secret list . . .

. . . though I do admit I own a few of her albums
