I got back from this movie a little earlier. I saw it at Movie Tavern, where I enjoyed the movie while indulging in an imposing quantity of hefeweissen (and nachos) -- factor that into my opinion as you see fit. Anyway, the movie exceeded my expectations; I thought it was pretty damn good. I'm willing to accept it as an "alternate reality" Trek. And I'd definitely go see a sequel.

Sounds like the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin. I saw Star Trek with a chicken quesadilla and a pitcher of house beer.
For me the only real WTF moment was seeing the Enterprise (or at least some ship) being constructed on the ground. I was under the impression that SF ships were not so atmosphere friendly hence they were constructed in space? That and the Enterprise was called the new flag ship, but I thought it was a Constitution class vessel until Wrath of Khan, meaning of course there must be a USS Constitution somewhere of similar/identical design?
Other than that I liked the "new" Star Trek, still felt "old" to me. Highlight for me was McCoy and Spock - nice piece of character reconstruction. In fact I thought Karl had the McCoy mannerisms down pat.

There were several times the new actors *sounded* like the old actors almost perfectly - McCoy in the shuttle at the beginning had the right inflection and accent, Kirk at the end when he calls out "Bones!" sounded dead on for Shatner's jocular tone. It was eerie. I wonder if they did that on purpose to have Easter Eggs in the acting.
This may a dumb question to those more Trek than me, which is probably most of you, but when I was watching the movie I was wondering what happened to the letters in the serial number of the Enterprise on the outside of the ship??

Anybody know?
You mean the NCC or the suffix (A, B, C)... if you mean the suffix, since this is the first Enterprise in Star Fleet, it starts as the base number.
I thought they had NCC on the serial. Bonus points if you know what NCC stands for.
