I'm not sure that's true? Honor the past, forge ways for the future?geneweigel wrote:Yeah, I don't know when it is but they're definitely having one.
I felt like I wasted the whole trip the last con that I went to (LGGC 2006) by just standing around or wasting energy. This time around I thought I could do something more constructive to establish a new base or tradition but that doesn't seem possible now.

Running old school games at GenCon is definitely worthwhile, but I understand about the vast expense. I'm heading down to the North TX RPG Con---which was started by two guys from the Acaeum who are as much players as collectors---and it looks like a good successor to LGGC to me. The first one is from June 5-7 (next month); details @ http://ntrpgcon.com/index.htmlgeneweigel wrote:Back on topic, the con. [snip]
What other options are there?
There aren't any. [snip]
Seriously, its either this or GenCon and whats the point of going to GenCon?
The hotel's cheaper than GC by far ($99/night), and flights to Dallas/FW are usually pretty cheap (I got mine for $180 roundtrip). Plus there's a raffle for folks flying in, to win $300 in airfare (among many other interesting raffles!). Worth considering for next year, even if you can't make it this year on such short notice, Gene.

Yeah, but the past is a huge problem too much "bad D&D" comes from before it even had a name.Chgowiz wrote:I'm not sure that's true? Honor the past, forge ways for the future?geneweigel wrote:Yeah, I don't know when it is but they're definitely having one.

Realize all the flaws, ignore the bulk of it then move ahead towards the future is what I was going for!
A blanket "come one come all" doesn't help this approach much! Especially with the ringmaster of "anti-D&D" (Zeb Cook) being invited so wholeheartedly as if "its all good".
So I just need to put out a ten foot pole.
Well, all I can say is that for any event, if it's open to me running an old school D&D game, then I'll go check it out. I had a nice time at CODCon, I'm not sure I'll make Concentricon in Sugar Grove, and I will be going to GenCon to run super-secret-guerilla-style OD&D/Swords-Wizardry games, so I'd go to a convention up in LG in a heartbeat if I could meet some nice people and play some good games.geneweigel wrote:Yeah, but the past is a huge problem too much "bad D&D" comes from before it even had a name.Chgowiz wrote:I'm not sure that's true? I'm anti-collector. With my gruff nature I'm like the Man-Thing but its...
HE THAT KNOWS VALUE
HIS ANTIQUES BURN
AT THE TOUCH OF THE...
WEIG THING
"He just cracked a wooden D&D box into chits!!! AHHHH!!!! Hide the merchandise!!!
Seriously, the distance and sketchiness are big factors. If it was lets say Pennsylvania I'd definitely do it but for Texas I don't know I think I might have to recieve a "triumph" reception to go that far!

Now that I'm on "alert", I'm probably going to be "gamer profiling" in the parking lot...Chgowiz wrote:I'd go to a convention up in LG in a heartbeat if I could meet some nice people and play some good games.
"Hey, what do you think of this Brom illustration?"
"Its great my witch character's magic gown is based on a p-..."
"Sir, I'm going to ask you step out of your vehicle."
Seriously, I'm just not going to be involved as much as I wanted to originally by running a tournament.

I dunno, maybe this WAS the censored version, but I definitely got the picture. Kinky fantasies of a lonely old man.

Come to think of it, I did read the "expanded edition" which supposedly restored Greenwood's original intent. "This version has been completely reedited and contains added text and material that bring new excitement to the story." Heh heh, heh.Flambeaux wrote:Somehow, I missed that the three times I read Spellfire. Not that I'm going to go back and reread. I don't have the time for twaddle anymore.

Ahh...I'm pretty certain I read the original publication edition when it came out. I think the last time I looked at a fantasy novel of any kind was about a decade ago.Falconer wrote:Come to think of it, I did read the "expanded edition" which supposedly restored Greenwood's original intent. We are going to need about double the events next year (we have about 14 this year) so we'd love to have you here running some S&W next year.Chgowiz wrote:

Do you have any open seats for those super-secret-guerilla-style S&W games at Gen Con? Any details ironed out yet that you can share (such as day, times, possible locations, game nuts & bolts, secret handshake to gain admittance, stuff like that)? Depending upon some of the details and schedules and such, I'd be interested in sitting in if it would work out.Chgowiz wrote: <<snip>>

Oh yes... it's open table gaming - and yes, the closer we get, the list that does not exist will have times dates and people on it.tacojohn4547 wrote:Do you have any open seats for those super-secret-guerilla-style S&W games at Gen Con?
