Now I've Done It!

Post by quatzl »

In the spirit of the new year. Less bitching, more action! I went to a local game store for a gamers meetup, and pitched running an AD&D campaign set in the Wilderlands of High Fantasy. I felt a little out of place considering what other folks already had going on and what some of them were trying to get started. But all the people were nice and I think I have four brave players. All of which have never played 1st ed. nor are they familiar with any of the classic material we all know and love. What a cool position to be in. Now the 'oh my god' I better get my sh*t together moment. A little scary, but can't wait to start.

Victory!

Ack! Piper! You're speaking the Ebonics of Klingon! It's Qapla', which is pronounced KKHAP-LA; cut the -la' off at the end, and the Q sounds like you're coughing and hocking a loogie at the same time.

Tangent over. Well done, quatzl!

Hey, at least I used a "Q" instead of a "K"! :D

Thanks for the mini-lesson in Klingonese (yeah, I know that's wrong too but I can't remember the proper terminology!). I really admire Orkrand for his work developing that language, even if I never bothered to learn it ...

On topic, congrats.

Off topic, I've always wondered why anyone bothered to learn Klingon. Is it just fun having a "secret language" to talk to other overly hardcore Star Trek fans with?

Have you ever been to a Trekkie Convention? 8)

No, but I've heard stories. Hilarious stories.

I've cleaned outhouses in the summer, I've cleaned dog kennels when they all had diarrhea for over a month, I got blasted in the face by a skunk turning my nose green while saving a beagle under a rock but none of that beats getting a seat early in the main hall at a Star Trek convention getting locked in by people who couldn't fit on one seat and breathing what can only be described as the methane atmosphere of the planet vomit for two hours!

Hey! I gotta tell that story every chance I get! I paid the price for it! ;)

Back to the thread, it can get jittery before "reintroducing" old D&D/AD&D because theres an expectation of backlash. Believe me, since that happened to me a few years ago, theres no backlash once the game gets rolling they'll be happy the game is moving so damn fast for the first time or the first time in years! ;)

I'd not show them the DMG at all (keep the rules secret). 3E players have a tendency to want to study the mechanics rather then focusing on play.

No, most Klingonists enjoy linguistics and like the way Klingon works or sounds.

You're confusing people who dress up as Klingons with people who speak Klingon. Very few people do both. In fact, a lot of Klingon speakers don't even like Star Trek all that much.

I've seen some of your game videos. Your games get rolling?

Absolutely. And emphasize the fact that it's a completely different game. Not a completely different version of the same game, a completely different game.

I'm not a Trekkie, I'm a Klingonist!
I can't imagine trying to explain that to the average person.

It's pretty much what I said above.

I meant rolling into a ditch...

;)

Seriously, yeah, the camera man was playing when he wasn't filming. I had a DM cam to prevent that on the second film but it was confiscated early on to "film babies" upstairs and I never got it back. So that why nobody seems to be having turns and its mostly downtime but that adventure wouldn't have made it to the dungeon if it was played in later D&D with all the skill laden rules for sure.
