first post and a quick question here... does anyone know if any of the publishing companies such as Pied Piper plan to be at
Dragon*Con this year? I have watched the 'old school' gaming dwindle to practically
nothing in recent years at this convention in Atlanta and I have been powerless to stop it. Newer editions have taken completely over. Last year the game room was quite pathetic. I didn't recognize anything going on in there.
Personally I would LOVE to see a return to some old school style AD&D tournament gaming. What I wouldn't give to take part in one (or more!) of those games.

And it would be cool to see some of the new OOP publishers in attendance with their wares. I'd certainly spend my money with them over the newer editions.
Thanks,
~Hoyt.

Sadly Dragon*Con last year was pretty poor for picking up RPG stuff -- seems that most of the used and remainder RPG vendors didn't come back.
Looking for a new, more gaming-oriented, less geek-snob oriented con in the south...

I attend Dragon Con every year and will again be offering an AD&D game for those interested to sign up for and play. I started running AD&D games at D*Con in 2003 and have seen only one other person run it and that was only in 2005. I hope to complete my adventure and have it submitted for posting the the D*Con gaming section before too much longer...

not sure how much this offers, but
RoundCon is held yearly in Columbia, SC in the spring time. So we just missed it actually.
then there's
SciFi Summer Con in Atlanta in June.
ChattaCon next January.
followed by
ConNooga in Feb 2009
ConCarolinas, which just happened this past weekend
we also just missed
MobiCon, held in Mobile, AL
and
OmegaCon held in Birmingham - whose website seems to be offline currently.
anyway, there's a few for bookmarking and researching.

I ran an 'old school' tournament we specifically played at that Con, for 2005 and 2006, but was unable to return last year. We did not register the game, but set up a table in one of the rooms provided and ran the game for two days. Maybe I will call forth a host of old-schoolers here and return to Atlanta this Summer. When I was there last we were actually interviewed by a two writers for some indie-gaming magazine covering the Con. They were dumbfounded to find a group of 8 playing 'old-school' (AD&D in this case). Actually, we drew in extras just looking to play a game and who had never played AD&D. At one point we were up to 11. As for vendors, I don't know. In 2006 there was one vendor that had a pretty extensive selection of AD&D, White Dwarf, old Dragon Magazines, old Chaosium material, and Runequest to name a few.
