Does anyone know the name of this Hammer (I think) flick. It starred Peter Cushing I believe. On some island off England there were these large blobs attacking people, I think they may have been radioactive. Anyway, I remember them leaking spegetti when they got damaged.

The title is "Island of terror" directed by Terence Fisher (in 1966)...

Was that the one where the blobs injected a substance that jellified the bones of their victims? I remember the only one who got touched and survived had his arm cut off just below the shoulder to keep the effect from spreading into the rest of his body.

Or is that another 1960s monster flick?

These two fit the original rules:

Ghost Story. This one's got a really nice atmosphere going for it.

The Legend of Hell House. The book by Matheson is better, but the movie make for a good evening in a seriously haunted mansion.

Now I think the new "no contemporary" rule is unfortunate, so I'm going to violate it with this suggestion:

Severance. Yes, it's from 2006, but it's indie spectacular - definitely worth watching. It's been described as The Office meets the Hills Have Eyes 2. I rather enjoyed the characters - and the gruesome deaths.

Oh, someone mentioned The Descent earlier on in this thread. The movie was okay, but it was nothing like the book. For a new twist on what's going on deep underground, check out the book of the same title by Jeff Long. Drow. Who needs 'em when you can have Hadals?

I think it was me who mentioned The Descent dut I ignored it was first a novel (i'll try to find it but i'm afraid there's no french traslation yet)...
According to the Matheson book you mentioned (i haven't seen the movie), I like it but I'd rather Shirley Jackson's The Hauted (and Wise's movie) : it's a pretty more ambitious.
Straub's book is okay and the movie too.

Merry Xmas (too late) and happy new year (too soon) to everybody.
