 I normally hate music, but I'm pretty sure I could play with this in the background:

[Not Work Safe!] http://i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=24887 [/Not Work Safe!]

(It's a "phonetic translation of a Belgian kid show song. Warning: adult language.")

When I was doing all my creative work for C&C I only listened to "The Silk Road" which is a National Geographic music collection from various Middle Eastern and Asian countries. Come to think of it, that might explain a lot... ;) Seriously, it is a wacky an eclectic mix from the World music genre. I love it, but have to take it in small doses.

But otherwise, Conan the Barbarian, Fellowship of the Rings, and Gladiator are the top three.

Cher, Celine Dion, Mandy Moore, Jojo....

GOTCHA!

 Ah, ROTFLMAO!

I don't listen to metal like in the early days of my youth, but I guess the guys that play the game are into metal.

The ST for Conan the Barbarian is the best, IMNSHO.

OT: I wonder if the guys of Metalocalypse (Dëthkløk) are ever seen playing RPGs...
(Maybe they wouldn't because it doesn't have enough 'metal-ness.')
I'd imagine that Nathan would play Conan.

I listen to a band called Therion quite a bit when I write. Kinda Wagner metal...

I enjoy some nice cheesy heavy metal, such as Hammerfall, for playing and creating.

I'll have to check that out, thanks Stuart. I had also picked up the FoTN offshoot, Rubicon, BITD too. What's the NFD sound like, in general?

Get it right: the proper title was "Dancing Queen of The Demonweb Waterloo."

It loses something in the translation.

I kidded with other members here once of creating a joke dungeon with ABBA as a theme, but that would take some serious longterm intoxication or sleep deprivation to accomplish that.

But I really do listen to ABBA when I'm writing; it helps.

Suzi listens to ABBA as well so, by default, I listen to ABBA also. :)

I've been playing the crap out of the new Electric Wizard, and so have been thinking a lot about sticking some Witchcults into the ol' campaign. The witch npc is in the first Best of Dragon, right?

Hm, interesting one. I haven't listened to much music while creating because I usually do so after the kids are in bed and I don't want to wake them up. However, I do sometimes and it is usually an eclectic mix of things like Emilou Harris, Neko Case, the Who, the Jam, Madness, fiREHOSE, the Descendants, Greg Brown, Fleetwood Mac, Carbon Leaf, Minutemen, JFA, the Clash, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, They Might Be Giants, Black Flag, the Ramones, and a large assortment of other punk, folk, ska, grunge, blue grass, old country, reggae, power pop, mod, oi, 80's, etc. Just depends on the mood at the time I suppose.

I have a mix of sci-fi, fantasy and adventure movies on one big disc when i play.

Otherwise, when I write/create/sculpt/illustrate/etc. I have absolute silence.

I don't do enough creating to have any sort of traditions associated with it  . A couple weeks ago I was roughing out a dungeon level, and I'm pretty sure I did it while sitting in front of the tv -- Hell's Kitchen probably, followed most likely by the KTLA 10 o'clock news.

Nostalgia is a big component* of my enjoyment of old-school games, so I usually listen to the same stuff I used to listen to when I was a teenager, which is old American punk rock along with some outlyers like Big Black, the Cramps, the Stooges, Johnny Thunders, the Replacements, etc.

* I know, it's supposed to be all about the game and DIY and the design philosophy, but I love the nostalgic element, too. My life now is like a happy version of my adolescence. :)
