Well I did something I haven't done for over 20 years last night, i auditioned for a play, MacBeth to be specific. The Director had me read McDuff several times during the audition. It was a blast I think i did okay.

Anyone know of good versions of MacBeth available on video/dvd?

Roman Polanski's MacBeth -- from 1971, but a pretty good version. Not always faithful to Shakespeare, occasional significant departures.

RSC Macbeth -- from a similar era. Almost exactly faithful to Shakespeare. Judi Dench's Lady MacBeth is possibly the finest performance of her life.

Ten years old -- and still no kickstarter!

Dude, you have just seriously jinxed yourself. It's "the Scottish play" don'tcha know.

For a klingon-ee looking Macbeth, there's the classic Orson Welles version from the 40's or 50's. I don't think I've seen any others, although imdb shows a bunch.

I tried watching the Orson Welles Macbeth a long time ago, but found it unwatchable. Isn't it supposed to be a "voodoo" Macbeth?

You might try Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood. Samurai Macbeth!!

Actually, someone in the KLI was translating Macbeth, but I don't think she ever finished.

Still, you can get the Klingon Hamlet and the Klingon Much Ado About Nothing (for which I was the editor) for your Klingon Shakespearean needs.

Need I ask how close to Shakespeare that version is?

I didn't catch Throne of Blood, but I did see Ran, and it was excellent.

Obviously the setting is wholly different, and I don't know if any of the Bard's language survives in the translation, but it is otherwise faithful. It's a great movie.

Hi,

You might be interested in this upcoming modern interpretation of MacBeth, starring Sean Bean:

Come like Shadows

Apart from that, Polanski's film, of course. :)

I got a part !!! (that was fast)- Old Siward. So I get a cool intro, an important part, seme realy good dialogue and some fighting but it isn't a major part (i think he is only in an act) so i can actually manage to focus and get the part down. The director is impressed by my fighting background and is talking like there is going to be a fair bit of bloody choreographed combat onstage.

Thanks for all the recomendations.

Marc Okrand is the linguist who created the Klingon language for Star Trek III, and who wrote the book for it that Paramount published. It was a hit, and they published a lot more materials. Klingon you hear in Star Trek III, V, and VI were directed by Okrand. Anything else is hit or miss (i.e., either the writer ignored The Klingon Dictionary entirely or he picked a few words out of it and completely ignored the grammar).

No other "official" Star Trek language has ever been produced, though there are fan-created languages for the major races. Vulcan and Ferengi have been particularly developed.
