RPGNow credit card information mass robery

Post by Le Noir Faineant »

Hello all,

Bad news, indeed.

Since OSRIC customers might well be affected by this, check the following thread at DF:

Yours,

Eek! Time to cover my ass.

At this point, I want to say that the core OSRIC rules are available for free from the Knights & Knaves website. This is the only place to which I have ever uploaded them.

In future, they will also be available from Lulu, as will other products from this site's members, but neither K&KA nor Lulu has anything to do with RPGNow.

The core OSRIC rules can be freely redistributed and one of our publishers decided to upload OSRIC to RPGNow -- which he was well within his rights to do, because of the OSRIC License (and he didn't need to ask my permission first). I didn't ask him to, and neither I nor this site's owners necessarily endorse RPGNow.

Neither Matt Finch, nor I, nor this site's owners, have ever uploaded anything at all to RPGNow. Ever.

It's true that some OSRIC products were distributed via RPGNow, but those are the copyrighted property of independent publishers. And those publishers aren't responsible for RPGNow's site security in any case.

If you've suffered any loss or have any concerns because of compromised personal data from the RPGNow site, you should contact RPGNow and only RPGNow to discuss the issue.

If you're concerned about RPGNow's site security and no longer wish to purchase from them, then I suggest Your Games Now as an alternative place to get your RPGs.

 Of course, I didn't post this because I wanted to sue you. (I mean, I am still busy with prooving that I and not Mr Gygax wrote First Edition. :lola:)

The point is just that many of us, who got OSRIC stuff there, might have purchased other things, and since RPGNow's information policy is just a mess, one might want to investigate things for oneself.

Sure, Ivid. ;)

It was probably completely unnecessary to post that. Almost certainly unnecessary. Almost.

I just want to alert you to a customer service offer I am participating in with Adamant. You can find it in a thread in the publisher section at Enworld

If you are one of the people who had credit card info compromised, I am offering a free product as a gesture of condolence for the inconvenience and stress this kind of situation can cause. Although the publishers at RPGNow have nothing to do with the handling of financial info, we are very upset about the situation and want to do what we can.

I know it is a small gesture, but if you were affected, email the title of the notification you received from OneBookShelf to goblinoidgames@yahoo.com. Also indicate any product we offer at RPGnow that you want, and I will send you a comp copy. Note that you do not have to give RPGnow any info when you pick up a comp copy.

Again, I'm sorry for any trouble this situation has caused customers.

Best,
Dan Proctor
