Getting the Word out about OSRIC
It occured to me that one of the ways to get the word out about OSRIC would be if a page was created at Wikipedia. What do you all think about doing that?

It's been tried. The idiot fatbeards who run Wikipedia shat themselves over it and deleted the entry.Crimhthan_The_Great wrote:It occured to me that one of the ways to get the word out about OSRIC would be if a page was created at Wikipedia. What do you all think about doing that?
Its been a while, I wonder if someone tried again?

What was the reason? If this were known, one could address the issue.thedungeondelver wrote:The idiot fatbeards who run Wikipedia shat themselves over it and deleted the entry.

Re: Getting the Word out about OSRIC
The big slap fight those girls got in to over it was that they viewed the OSRIC entry as just an advertisement, and there was no way to edit it to make it NOT be that way to them.Stormcrow wrote:What was the reason? It's been a while but that's how I remember it.
I've been using a more localized approach, myself:
1) Enter FLGS.
2) Post notice on bulletin board/leave on counter with clerk's permission...just a simple notice of OSRIC as an old-school resource and publishing aide, and a reference to the K&K website.
3) Repeat until I run out of FLGS' in my area.
4) Make plans to do the same at the next local Gaming Con I attend.
Don't know what the success rate is yet, but I might be reaching a few webless gamers this way. Sorry to hear about Wikipedia though.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the Wikipedia staff, then. Crimhthan's suggestion is indeed to advertise OSRIC on Wikipedia, after all.Crimhthan_The_Great wrote:It occured to me that one of the ways to get the word out about OSRIC would be if a page was created at Wikipedia.
Thats true for anything commercial...Monopoly the game, or what have you. I don't see the difference. If people want to know what OSRIC the game is, they should be able to find out at Wik. Perhaps not having a link to K&K would help?

I have to agree with AxeMental about this. OSRIC should have a Wikipedia Article - there are plenty of D&D Articles after all, but Storm Crow is also right, the intent behind the article is what Wikipedia is worried about. It might just be too early to put one up or it might be that it needs to be done by folk not involved with the project.

Castles & Crusades / Troll Lord Games have an advertorial on Wikipedia. Why not OSRIC?
Having said that, OSRIC's grown substantially since the previous attempt to put a Wiki article on. The objections included a lack of publishers (we now have 5), OSRIC's invisibility on Google (it's now the first result you obtain), a lack of big-name supporters (there's now Steve Marsh), and a lack of distribution (OSRIC probably has a wider audience than Tunnels & Trolls now).

Sounds like the time might be ripe, then.

I agree wth Mathew, Maybe someone nuetral, not involved in the project, should be the one to approach?

This is a good summary of what's wrong with Wikipeida:

It would be more convincing if it was a screen grab from an actual Wikipedia page.thedungeondelver wrote:This is a good summary of what's wrong with Wikipeida:
