BTB campaign details

I was just working on the OSRIC compendium, and looking at the giant weasel entry. It mentions, of course, the sale of the pelts.

Here's what occurred to me suddenly: the books themselves provide a few details about campaign life. Have you ever mentioned that a rich merchant is wearing a weasel-fur cloak? I haven't. Nor have I ever used one of these cloaks as "treasure" for mugging that same merchant.

What other details come from the books?
1) The wearing of giant weasel fur.
2) Dragon eggs for sale
3) Trained baby griffons in the markets...

What else is out there?

Most of the flying mounts can be bought/sold/traded with values mentioned (hippogriffs, pegasi, etc.).

Various monsters have body parts that are valuable/rare/whatever. I'm sure there's more, but I'm away from my books at the moment....

Any rare or uncommon monster's brain is useful; particularly for extracting potions of n control where N=giants, titans, dragons, etc.

Blood is always a good one as well, if you're looking to acquire the traits or some key trait of an animal.

I'd think the heart of most creatures would be efficacious for such potions as well...

As to the original question, I'd have to say that the core books are sprinkled with this kind of campaign detail and potential adventure hooks. The properties of gems section in the DMG comes to mind as well. I'm sure there's all manner of stuff I'm not thinking of at the moment.

What I'm thinking, of, though, is that these things would actually affect the minor descriptions of the world. For instance, if one were writing a city or town, such things would appear in the descriptions. I'm not making myself clear...

Flail Snail Baby!

Sucker's worth 5000gp and its shell works like a robe of scintillating colors for 6 months after it's dead.

Oh yeah, rock on Fiend Folio!

It's not so much that these are campaign world details. All of these things are merely ideas on what to do when your players say things like, "Say, can't we skin those wolves we just killed and sell their pelts? What're they worth, DM?"

There's no need to worry about proffering this information, either. If the players never think about it, you don't need it. If they do, you've got it.

"So why haven't we ever seen weasel-skin coats before?"
"You have; you just never asked about 'em before."
