Who else out there is converting a 3e group to 1e, or planning to? I've been working on mine for a while, with reinforcements from Northrundicandus.

I managed to get one of the groups to C&C but that seems to be as far as I can budge them. However, my other group may just be starting ToEE with 1st edition very soon.

I converted all the Player Characters from my last campaign from a homebrew / houseruled D&D game to 1.x, 2.x and 3.x. It was quite fun to see what the differences were.

[Edit] Oh, you mean converted in the sense of converting the game? Hmmn. Seems unnecessary. All the groups I know of play 1.x, 2.x or 3.x depending on the adventure / campaign.

Might as well jump into the proper forum. I'm an old time 1E player (started in '81 - '82 with Moldvay/Cook Basic and quickly went to 1E, played almost exclusively until early 1990's.) Been playing the most recent edition of D&D mostly because someone else was willing to DM and that is what they were willing to rune. Been pining for the "good old days" and will likely be starting a new 1E campaign in the next few months. Some slight modifications such as a skill system (very simple system I posted on Dragonsfoot for B/X a while back) and some alternate use for XPs to allow for some Character Class variations. Most tired of "run away" feats and unmanageable Prestige Classes

I tried a few sessions a couple or so months ago, but the players really, and I mean really, hated the fact that they couldn't fight and defeat, solely through force of arms, everything single entity they encountered.

Now we're trying Mongoose RQ. Me <--- Not impressed with MRQ.

Is there an emoticon for "envy?" So any ETA on OSRIC and lulu? I want hardcopy! :)

I can't give you an ETA on the hard copy of OSRIC yet, sorry. :(

I'm moving as fast as I can on it - but I've got a lot of other things to do too!

We never 3e-ized but we've been through 1e, 2e, HackMaster, and now Lejendary Adventure. There's still one character remaining from the 1e/2e campaign that I ran. He made it through that campaign, a short HM campaign, and he's still around. :?

Well, technically, I never converted from 1e either. I was on a sabbatical from gaming from about '94 to '03. Obviously, there were a lot changes during that time. When I got back into gaming, I felt like Brandon Frasier in Blast From The Past. I picked up a couple of them new-fangled D&D books, then stuck 'em back on the shelf and ran the new small group I'd put together through 1e. Shortly thereafter, I met someone through the D&D meetup.com group who was willing to run his own 1e game. The only thing better than running your own 1e game is finding someone else to run their's. :)

DISCLAIMER: For one session, after Katrina, my wife and I sat in on an Eberron game. Before we got home, we decided we'd not be returning to that group.

I'm with PnP - I'm still playing 1E.

I have no intention or need to convert to 2E, 3E, 4E or nE.

In fact, I'm involved in five or six distinct games rignt now, and all of them are essentially 1E.

That said, I'm not above using some of the very good 3E adventures out there. I work up the monsters & NPC's on combat sheets as a part of my pregame prep, and then convert the challenge resolution mechanics (spot checks, saves, and other things handled by skills or feats) on the fly. It's not really that bad.

I played 1E exclusively until the release of 3E (I was one of those duped into thinking it was a departure from 2E back to 1E). Well, $130 and 8 months later I was back to 1E.

Our group had PCs they wanted to convert back to 1E. Only 1 player still regularly plays their converted 3E PC.

P&P, it would be GREAT if you could get OSRIC in hard back before Christmass. Perhaps the editing job could be divided in half or thirds? I know its tough to work this in with normal life preasures on top of it.
